andyhite (290), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Sep 22, 2007 bottle. intense deep ruby when held to light, otherwise, deep dark pour. head is avg. malt heavy, hints of chewy marshmallow and nougat, and perhaps anise. well rounded mouthfeel, fairly good backbone of darker malts. a touch of espresso bean and baking chocolate. typical Lo Grav porter. anise and plum shine through on the finish, as perhaps molasses. it gets better on the finish. it’s still a long way to go gto find the hidden jewel within the beer. nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 22, 2007 The aroma is what a porter should be. It’s roasted with malt, chocolate, and coffee. The appearance is brown with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is a little thin. Overall this is a good beer but not great. craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Sep 21, 2007 bottle. BOM club selection. pours a dark brown / somewhat clear black with little head. aromas of sweet malts. medium body with an oily texture. strong sense of caramel with a very nice finish. this is a solid porter that reminds me more of a brown ale. Great session beer. mjg74 (1995), La Mesa, California, USA Sep 3, 2007 Updated: Dec 22, 2007Bottle from Hi-Time Wine. Pours a dark brownish color. Roasted malty aromas. Some coffee as well. Burnt bitter malty/coffee flavor up front. Some milky sweetness. Finish is somewhat bitter and burnt. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 04/20/1996

1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Aug 30, 2007 Pours to a dark cola colored body with a thin white head. The aroma is quite nice with tons of chocolate, toasted malts, specialty grains, lactose. The flavor is chocolate with tons of toasted specialty grains. Strong milky lactose. There’s perhaps some sweet milk in the palate. MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA Aug 28, 2007 dark brown & ruby colored pour w/ a nice tan head and thick lacing. Big roasty aroma some lt lactose and rich full chocolates. avg palate w/ some good coating, smaller than I like though. Good well roasted flavor lightly nutty, some chocolates. Understated and delicous. The best porter I’ve had w/ out the word imperial in front of it in some time. Ofortuna (322), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA Aug 27, 2007 Good aroma, but poor head retention and relatively light in color. Some decent use of noble hops, but not nearly enough speciality malt used for my tastes. Again, this lack of malt leaves the beer feeling too one dimensional and uninspiring. With such a unique yeast strain you would have hoped that spending more money on the grain bill wouldn’t have been a problem?
