after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Sep 18, 2006 12-oz., courtesy BitBucket. Fairly neutral aroma of some mild breadiness and a little bit of smoke. Nice forward roasty chocolatey flavors from the attack through the mid palate to the finish. Some hop bitterness on the finish but not enough to make a whole team. Medium body, light carb, clean and drinkable by porter standards. Nice stuff. JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Sep 9, 2006 It is unfortunate they couldn’t do a better beer with such a cool story behind it. Aroma has some light fruit and roasted malt. The beer is brown and I can’t detect any sediment. Roasted grains in the flavor, and a very light aftertaste of the same that does last a long time. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Sep 8, 2006 Bottle from Sean (wish I could play Children of Bodom) Smith. Thanks! Browish black color, not much of a head. Smell is coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, sweet sugars. Taste is similar, pretty rich, but in a way it becomes a little too thin. Its a nice beer, but I prefer american porters because of the bold thickness they bring to the table. shendrix (478), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 8, 2006 A brew as dark as your ex-wife’s soul, which pours with the slightest bit of caramel head. Presents a tangy alcoholic nose with deeply roasted barley coming through. Tastes of barley and walnuts that have been roasted on an outdoor fire, with the mildest dark chocolate aftertastes. Almost a ghost of it in fact. Under-carbonated, but lovely and smooth. This brew fails to live up to its hype, but is certainly worth a try. Caliber (9), Orlando, Florida, USA does not count Aug 24, 2006 Pours deep, deep brown almost black color. Head is almost non-existent and lightly clings to the glass. Aroma is sweet with caramel overtones and a bit of a chocolatey malt charcter, but there is an overly strong alcohol aroma. Palate is very thin with little carbonation leaving it feeling rather flat. This does make it very drinkable, however as it goes down quite smoothly. Flavor is slightly roasty with a hint of caramel malts. Luckily, the alcohol present in the aroma does not come through in the taste. While I prefer a more roasted flavor in a porter, this is one highly drinkable beer as the palate is rather thin and the flavor pretty mellow. CharlesDarwin (1823), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Aug 20, 2006 12 Oz Bottle. Swift aroma of sugary caramels, mellowed. Iced tea sugars. Restrained roast, instead a gentle nut character, with edges of almond skins and light hazlenut oil. Pour of deep, deep clear mahogany, with a silky rim of lacy off-white. Flavor is a pan-fried toasted pecan, with some very distinct browned butter and almost artificial candied nut flavors. Fruity too, with effervescence. Everything light and a little thin. Palate derives dryness from oaken grain husk. A bright spritz. Almost root beer like. Alcohol tones absent. Certainly, a more drinkable porter. Long smack of chocolate pipe tobacco resins. First on, some yeasty dust. ajolly2 (123), USA Aug 17, 2006 Quality porter (or so I think; I haven’t had many). The backstory to this beer is almost as good as its taste. Try it; you won’t be disappointed. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Aug 11, 2006 Pour is a almost black a small amount of light shows through. Aroma is some chocolate with a bit of hops in there. Flavor is there in a nice way Lots of chocolate and coffee with some vanilla in there. Leaves a burnt flavoring on the tounge. $2 a 11 oz bottle is kinda pricy but this is to tasty to pass up.
