Well, I had to buy this beer when the owner of the bar told me the story. Anyway, it pours a deep mahogany brown with a thin off-white head that dissipates quickly leaving no lacing. There wasn’t a lot to the smell honestly. I got some faint coffee aromas and some sweet malts with some nutty aromas as well. The taste was better, with a well defined roasted character. Chocolate malts and coffee were also present long with a bit of nuts and dark fruit as well. The mouthfeel was a tad thin, but had good carbonation. this porter was OK and it was very drinkable despite not being the most complex porter out there.

Nice dark pour, looks stoutish. Taste is a little lighter than stout but still properly nasty in its own rite. Taste is a little of what I percieve to be old. Not bad overall. Some charcoal in there. Somewhat creamy palate with fine co2 sizzle.

4/6/12. 12oz bottle. Dark brown pour, lots of red under the light, with a small tan head that fades and laces a little. Light chocolate aroma with some cream and sourness. Nice, though somewhat light, chocolate and cream flavor with some coffee and a hint of sourness. Not too shabby.

What a fascinating story behind this beer. It is truly wonderful to be experiencing and living history like this, drinking beer made from 187 year old yeast! The beer itself is mild, almost tasteless, but still perfectly satisfying.

Bottle from storminorman, thanks Norm. Pours a dark brown that is almost black. There seems to be a bit of fruit on the nose. Taste has some of the same dart fruit. If I had this blind there is no way I would even think this is a porter. This is a very nice surprise. I like how this works together in a way I was not expecting.

Yeast from a shipwreck is a new one. This is a nice traditional strength porter with a toasted malt aroma. It’s ashy bittersweet with a mild bitter aftertaste. Dark brown, not heady, medium body.

This is a fantastic porter. Looks like cola, with a thin, tan head. Aromas of roasted grains and dark licorice. Tastes of smoky grains, dark chocolate notes, mild coffee, and dark licorice. Ends on a bittersweet chocolate note. Extremely smooth, and easy to drink. This is delicious.
