Draft. Amber body with a frothy, off-white head, slowly diminishing. Aroma of toasted grain, caramel, resin. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. The finish is lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Husky, grainy taste and lots of bitterness. A hint of caramel once you get past the bitter finish.

Draft sample at Flat 12. Poured clear dark amber hue with medium frothy white head that lasted with good lacing. Medium aroma of hops and sweet malt. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Well balanced flavor of malt and hop with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good drinkable brew.

Draft at RapeBeer’s wedding. Pours a semi-cloudy amber color with a small, soft, resilient khaki head. Notes of toasted malts, nuts, caramel, brown sugar, biscuits, sweet crackers, and faint earthy hops. Light-medium bodied, with soft carbonation and a toasty mouthfeel. Excellent amber ale that hits all the right notes for me.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MmmcKay (1019) - Brentwood, Tennessee, USA - SEP 16, 2011
Rating 800. Also among the first beers that I got to try at Flat 12. I’ll admit, it’s a bit difficult to rate this beer. I’m a hops guy, and this guy’s hopped in spades. Real fresh obviously since it’s at the brewery. The 42.7 IBUs are at the forefront here. They stand out. There’s enough malt to back it up though. Nice light earthiness to go along with some zesty spice. It’s different. Haven’t had many good ambers lately. Refreshing change.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Block (1039) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - JUN 22, 2011
A nice blend of caramel and hops. A smoother and maltier version of their pale ale.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 patrick767 (3169) - fort wayne, Indiana, USA - APR 28, 2011
tap at the brewery - Pours amber with an off-white head. From the mild citrus hops in the aroma onward it’s obvious that this brew is heavily hopped for the style. It tastes of citrus hops and caramel malt and bitterness lingers in the finish. This bubbly, medium bodied brew is an enjoyable quaff.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheAlum (4289) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - APR 10, 2011
Sampled on tap at the brewery (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a nice deep caramel brown hue, some fiery amber, a frothy beige offwhite head dies to a firm ring, laces a-ok. Aromas are light sweeter malts, caramel and toast, biscuits, and some toffee, a light floral and grassy hopping with a touch of orange. Mellow, a bit vague. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, some sweeter and toasty malts, toasted bread, caramel, biscuits. Some light florals, toffee. Some grassiness, the hops bring a touch more dominance on the back, though not strong. From sweet into a light dryness. A touch more American hops grow on the finish, some lemon and light grapefruit. A solid Amber, balanced.
