3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MmmcKay (893) - Brentwood, USA - SEP 16, 2011
Rating 800. Also among the first beers that I got to try at Flat 12. I’ll admit, it’s a bit difficult to rate this beer. I’m a hops guy, and this guy’s hopped in spades. Real fresh obviously since it’s at the brewery. The 42.7 IBUs are at the forefront here. They stand out. There’s enough malt to back it up though. Nice light earthiness to go along with some zesty spice. It’s different. Haven’t had many good ambers lately. Refreshing change.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 574deadzone (264) - North Central, Indiana, USA - MAY 25, 2012
Sample at Flat 12. Very hoppy, almost astringent. Just kind of a crazy hoppy nose. It’s smooth enough but lacks refinement in my view. I don’t think the malt body is big enough for the hops on this one. It’s decent, but I don’t think I could have done a pint of it.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 jezmez68 (364) - Chesterton, Indiana, USA - APR 26, 2012
Typical looking amber. I’m not picking up any aroma hops, but when you taste this, BAM! The hop bite is there. I like my ambers with a nice hoppy bitter back-bite; I am not a fan of typical ambers (too sweet). These guys make a good one.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dixonian (1200) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAR 7, 2012
On tap.
Deep amber pour with a good amount of tan head. Nose is very malty - biscuit, caramel, and toast. Some grassy hops and toffee as well. Flavor has a surprising hop bite - earthy and grassy. More malt with a bitter finish.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 jcr (1681) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - MAR 3, 2012
Draft. Amber body with a frothy, off-white head, slowly diminishing. Aroma of toasted grain, caramel, resin. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. The finish is lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Husky, grainy taste and lots of bitterness. A hint of caramel once you get past the bitter finish.

Tap at source. Toffee malt, cherry, and citrus peel aroma. Amber color with small head. Sweet toffee malt and moderately bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Nice - an excellent beer.

Draft sample at Flat 12. Poured clear dark amber hue with medium frothy white head that lasted with good lacing. Medium aroma of hops and sweet malt. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Well balanced flavor of malt and hop with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good drinkable brew.

On tap on the brewery. Pours a clear light brown with a thick white head. Aroma of bready and oatmeal malt. Flavor is crisp, quite malty with some bitterness in the finish. Solid amber, on the malty side, very drinkable.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 phaleslu (3544) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - OCT 11, 2011
Draft at RapeBeer’s wedding. Pours a semi-cloudy amber color with a small, soft, resilient khaki head. Notes of toasted malts, nuts, caramel, brown sugar, biscuits, sweet crackers, and faint earthy hops. Light-medium bodied, with soft carbonation and a toasty mouthfeel. Excellent amber ale that hits all the right notes for me.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Block (864) - West Lafayette, Indiana, USA - JUN 22, 2011
A nice blend of caramel and hops. A smoother and maltier version of their pale ale.
