The Half Cycle is so named due to its marriage of single and double IPA characteristics. In baseball parlance, a single and double is half of “the cycle”, and this IPA is a heavy hitter. It’s a single IPA, hopped like a double, with an over-the-top hop character that’s a bit spicy, citrusy, piney, you make the call. Light in color, but not on flavor, this big boy is dry hopped with a pound of high alpha American hops in every barrel. ABV: 6% IBU: 104.1

8/11/12. GTMW. Orange pour with a nice khaki head. Really nice hopped up aroma with plenty of citrus and pine in there. More subdued hop profile in the flavor and more of the maltiness comes through. Not bad!

Poured on tap slightly copper in color. Smells of pine and spices. Hoppy, spicy and nutty in taste. Hints of citrus at the end.

From a growler at Muckfest III - Pours light amber with a white ring of head. Nose is citrus and garlic hops, hints of grass with a sweet malt base. Taste is pretty malty, with more dank hops and light citrus. Finishes really savory. Thin and slick in the mouth.

This was a guest tap and at $3..25 a pint a fairly decent one. It isn’t a spectacular IPA but is good enough that I’d think about trying it again. Flat 12’s beers have been so solid that some day I will need to make it to the brewpub up in Indianapolis.

Aroma / Appearance - The carbonated body looks like a sunbather after several days at the beach. Atop is a soft ivory head the color of pure soap. Sweet herbal hops, traces of cotton candy, and a grassy citrus base sparkle in the afternoon heat.

Flavor / Palate - Lemons, oranges, and a high pile of freshly pulled weeds alternate between earthy and citrusy. The hops take their time building to a bitter crescendo. This is an ideal lawnmower beer although I think locally I’d rather drink Dragonfly or Full Cycle (from Cutters).

On tap at twenty tap. Hop aroma was nonexistent, but very good hop flavor. Grapefruit and mango flavors. Complex malt flavors. Sweet, bready, and biscuity all at once. Very well balanced. Good beer.

This draft brew from a beer festival poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized bubbles that were quickly diminishing and left behind a uncarbonated hazy dark yellow colored body. The mild bitter aroma was hoppy. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The off tasting flavor contained notes of deep hops. Not one that I would drink again.

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2012 Holy crap. Talk about getting punched in the face with hops. Super dank, definitely over the top. Super bitter flavor. This needs more sweetness and a higher ABV, it’s basically a double IPA without the alcohol and body. I love the Winter Cycle, which is the DIPA version, but this I just couldn’t get into. I admire the effort, but not for me, sorry. Update: tried the bottled version. Much more mellow, but still big hops. Still seems like it could stand a bigger malt bill, but that’s not really the point with this one. I brought it up a few points.

Pours a golden amber with a small white head. The aroma is pleasant, hoppy, floral, and fruity with notes of citrus and orange. The taste is hoppy, fruity, and very bitter with a nice malt backbone. This is an nice beer.

Draft. Pours orange with a white head, good retention/some lace. Floral, citrus hops, biscuit, caramel malt. Taste is moderately bitter, tangerine, floral hops, light caramel malt sweetness. Palate is soft, oily, somewhat dry, bitter finish. Good.
