The Half Cycle is so named due to its marriage of single and double IPA characteristics. In baseball parlance, a single and double is half of “the cycle”, and this IPA is a heavy hitter. It’s a single IPA, hopped like a double, with an over-the-top hop character that’s a bit spicy, citrusy, piney, you make the call. Light in color, but not on flavor, this big boy is dry hopped with a pound of high alpha American hops in every barrel. ABV: 6% IBU: 104.1

12 oz Bottle. Appearance is clear, amber color with medium, off-white head. Aroma is heavy citrus and pine hops. Taste is way over the top bitter. Citrus grapefruit and pine dominant the taste that has little malt balance. Palate is medium-bodied, slick texture, and dry almost astringent finish. I’m a fan of hoppy beers but this one just felt like it was trying to be bitter for bitter sake -- no naunce whatsoever. Disappointing.

Had on tap in Indy. White head, nice amber appearance. Citrus and pine aroma. For 100+ IBU I was expecting a bigger punch, must say a little disappointed but not a bad IPA.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2015 I wanted to like this. I hope I got a skunked one. Draft pour at high velocity in Indy. Bright orange cloudy with sticky white head. I knew from the dank skunky fruity aroma it wasn’t going to taste good. And it didn’t. Super bitter. Just tastes like bitter rotten fruit 2 days later - at flat 12 and having this again. Bartender did tell me it was off that night and it does taste better from tap here

From notes. Tasted on 10/21/12 from a capped 12oz bottle. Pours clear pale orange with an average white head that leaves average lace. The nose is very hoppy with tons of resin, citrus, grapefruit peel, and a touch of tropical fruit. The flavor is more simple with the grapefruit peel dominating, and it is difficult to detect much else but some bread malt. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long, bitter finish.

Pour out of 16 oz can at the brewery, hazy yellow-orange pour with white head, aroma brought pine, grass, big spicy hops, lots of caramel as well with a hint of biscuit. Taste is a mix of orange, big caramel, toffee, hints of pine, touch of earth, some spice into a bitter finish. Eh, there is definitely a soapy quality to this.

When I think of baseball, I do not think of Indiana. I get cheese in the nose. These are not the hops I was looking for. Bitter, yes. Not a treat for the close of this six pack. Let’s recap. two drain pours and two split 12oz beers. What a day! Hope the misses likes this!

Bottle: The aroma consists of light fruit, caramel, herbal and floral hops, soap, and a touch of lemon peel. It pours a slightly hazy golden-orange with an incredibly large head that never fades...in fact, it literally doesn’t stop growing for several minutes. Carbonation looks as though it will be incredibly lively as streams of tiny bubbles rise to the top almost like champagne. The flavor starts with some mild citrus with a hint of caramel. The finish has light-moderate floral and herbal hops, faint grapefruit, a touch of orange peel and soap. It’s medium bodied with surprising soft carbonation and mouthfeel. I really expected this to have a prickly mouthfeel. Overall, I’m generally not a big fan of herbal/floral IPA’s, so this doesn’t do much for me.

Bottle: clear gold with small off-white head. Interesting aroma of wet grass, citrusy hops and a little pepper. Funky bitter hop almost like rue flavor. Thin finish and sulphuric aftertaste.

1st try from Flat 12 Bierwerks: Half Cycle is not bad, aggressive dry hopping is pronounced and not altogether pleasant--it’s okay, a bit one-dimensional. Overall, a decent first showing. 12oz bottle.
