Don’t let the color deceive you, this beer is lighter than it looks and packs a big hop punch. -Loaded with 5 different American hops, Nunmoere is a complex blend of roasted malts and fragrant hops.

Definitely lighter than it looks. The flavor is light with just a touch of roastedness. Not too much hop bite. Really mild. Overall pretty good.

Draft on tap at the brewery (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a nice brownish black hue, decent hazy darker body with a growing brownish copper glow that trails out from the middle to the edges and bottom. Frothy tannish head is a decent soapy layer atop, sticks around as a small film, laces ok. Aromas are decent pine, florals, touches of resiny life meet a bit of grapefruit, gentle toast and bready malts. Firm hop nose shows a bit of bread, gentle toast behind. Fresh, zippy. Initial is firmly bitter, smaller body up front as the resiny and floral hop bitterness hits strong as it keeps going. Dry, bitter, pine with a bit of grapefruit. Gentle toast, distinct faint cocoa, earth, biscuity malt elements show a bit of body. Firmer bitterness shows a bit of tropical fruit, more pine and grapefruit into the backend. Hop profile picks up some really nice character back here. Dry, bitter, a bit toasty with that weird vanilla type / Baskins Robbins feel I get in some Black IPAs. The hop profile is pretty enjoyable, the beer a bit more smooth and smaller overall. Finish is dry, bitter, lingering toasty and biscuity malts. Nice hops. Tasty stuff.

Bottle. Deep dark color. These are the kind of Black IPAs I like. Not too bitter and full of roasted flavor. Aroma is roasted grains with notes of citrus.

Cola rocky body, rocky head. Quite roasty, punctuated by a fillip of PNW hopping, which contribute a foresty pineyness, with the roast adding a smooth smokiness. The roast is toned down in the body, though it contributes to mouthfeel. Moderate PNW hopping throughout. Spicy pine forest with a pleasant, mild smoky underpinning that crescendos into the finish.

Very dark brown, which is kinda disappointing for a beer named nunmoere black. Smells chocolatey with a whiff of prune. Taste is more coffee and note of red wine, with some touches of prune and raisin

This pours like a big ol impy stout thick dark with a beige head. The aroma will let you know otherwise. You get some chocolate and coffee mixed with hints of citrus. The flavor leans mostly stout with coffee and chocolate but has some citrus notes in the finish. The Black IPAs I hate are the ones that put the citrus first. This is a stout with a bit of tang? twang? Overall one of the better ones.

12 oz. Opaque with a lasting disc of cream on top. Aroma is at first peach and pineapple but quickly adds some creamy cocoa, graham cracker and dark toffee. Taste is creamy mocha espresso mixed with a strong dose of grapefruit and green resiny herb. Some graham cracker and a note of fresh apple in there as well, with just the right touch of char on the long finish. Silky smooth, light-medium body has low-medium carbonation and is damn near chuggable. This will be my new workhorse brew for awhile.

Aroma: A healthy, but not overwhelming, dose of citrus hops with a malt profile that tends toward coffee with a splash of hazelnut; chocolate is dried out and lean in the background. Surprisingly tempting (I’m not a big fan of Black IPAs typically, but still try them nonetheless). Appearance: Solid black pour with a foamy light mocha head that dissipates into a creamy, bubbly patch; carbonation seems healthy enough to support the head to a sufficient level. Flavor: Pretty roasty and dry; almost chalky up front. The citrus is present as well, but really shows up more toward the finish. Bitterness and dried out chocolate round out things a bit more; maybe a little earthiness in a complementary role. Palate: Light/medium body, sticky texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: Definitely one to try if you like Black IPAs, and even if you don’t. A very nice ale all around.

Draught at Flat 12. Big black body in the pour. A black IPA without the big hop nose I’ve come to expect.
