The Flat12 Porter is inspired by the robust porters favored by the Industrial-age working men of Europe. We chose to emphasize balance from a combination of dark grains including brown malt, which was the primary roasted grain of the time. This Flat12 creation is smooth and balanced with slight roast and chocolate notes, yet it’s not heavy, just like a good porter should be. ABV: 5.5% IBU: 34.1

Bottle. Pours a lovely brown with ruby highlights and a high, solid, fine-grained light brown head. Nose is coffee, beef stock, sage, savory, rosemary, and a touch of baking chocolate -- very nice. Very very solid on the tongue; firm, not at all sweet, and clean, with strong roasty flavors leading the way followed by sage and mint. Coffee closes it up. Finish is long, dry, clean, and substantial. This is just a very, very good porter; nothing fancy, no additives, no fripperies. Bravo.

Rated on 4-09-2011 at Flat 12. This draft beer has a small tan head with a long retention, opaque dark brown body, and a good amount of lacing. The aroma consist of malt, roasty, chocolate, and earthy. The taste is roasty, chocolate, malt, and lightly roasted. The mouthfeel is very smooth and this beer is medium bodied. This is a very, very quaffable porter as the flavors come together very well. It is worth trying and a beer I would enjoy drinking again.

Growler shared by Gene at RBWG 2014 Grand Tasting, thanks! Pours a clear brown with an amber hue and a gray head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a light roast note, with dark grains and a hint of dark fruits. Flavor is a touch thin but grows to have roasted malts and dark grains.

Pint on tap. Opaque ebony with a lasting spit of cream. Aroma is espresso, bittersweet chocolate and mild charred buttered popcorn.Tastes of semisweet chocolate, black strap molasses, lactose, berry and disconcerting hints of charred buttered popcorn. Medium body gets a little sticky, but has a big roasty finish and a smooth, medium level of carbonation.

A murky brownish black with a beige head. The aroma contains some chocolate, toffee, and caramel. The flavor is rather sweet with some chocolate, nutmeg, caramel, and molasses. This is more like a brown ale but has some porter characteristics. Overall a nice beer.
