The Flat12 Porter is inspired by the robust porters favored by the Industrial-age working men of Europe. We chose to emphasize balance from a combination of dark grains including brown malt, which was the primary roasted grain of the time. This Flat12 creation is smooth and balanced with slight roast and chocolate notes, yet itís not heavy, just like a good porter should be. ABV: 5.5% IBU: 34.1

Nurse Nancy would be humbled by the head this thing gives. Seriously - half inch of beer gave four inches of head. Beer was still sparkling. Taste was not bad, but not worth the hurdles to reach. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Ar: Chocolate syrup, some herbal hops, blueberry. Ap: Deep brown, opaque - small tan head with medium-poor retention. T: Lots of cocoa up front, medium-sweet - herbal hops, medium bitterness - some berry, caramel, toffee - coffee and dark chocolate on the finish. P: Medium-full body, creamy, a bit chewy - medium-high carbonation. O: Delicious porter - great chocolate flavor, and the body and sweetness are spot on.

On tap at Flying Saucer in Nashville. I think this lives up to its mission. A nice roaster dark porter that is reasonable in alcohol and exceptionally easy to drink. Plenty of roast, and just enough chocolate. I certainly need to try it again and maybe make this a go-to porter in Nashville.

A decent porter overall. The good is the aroma is spot on for a porter with a very roasted chocolate and coffee feel. The finish is slightly hoppy which I find appealing. The appearance is good for a porter (nice and dark with a tan head) The bad is that it has entirely too much carbonation for a porter. This beer could also stand to be a little more full bodied/creamier.

Thanks to spycow for sharing some of this one. Very dark. Nose and flavor have mild chocolate and some roast. No flaws, but not super interesting.

UPDATED: FEB 13, 2014 Found this at RBWG, which is good for the brewery as the bottle I tried was terrible. This one was a growler. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, chocolate, mild hops. Taste is roasted malts, chocolate, nuts, mild hops. Medium bodied. 8/3/8/3/16.

Previous rating (6/2/5/3/8)... 12 ounce bottle from a trade. Pours a.... OK now half the beerís on the floor and I have a glass full of foam. The worst gusher Iíve seen in quite some time, but that doesnít mean it wonít be good. Just ask De Dolle. Iím going to let this one sit for a while.

OK... just poured the rest of the bottle down the drain because I got sick of dealing with it. Got maybe about 4 ounces in the glass. Aroma of chocolate, mild herbal notes and an ashy note. The taste is chocolate, mild roast, and a mild hop finish. Medium bodied. Not a bad beer, not a good experience.

12 oz bottle pours a dark brown, but 80% a beige head that takes a while to settle. Big clumps of foam settled on the side of my mug. I donít know how this one tasted very cold, because it took so long and so many small pours for the huge head to subside. Smell is of roasted malts and chocolate. Flavor is the same, with some notable fruitiness (raspberry?). Tastes sweet with a slighly nutty finish , Body is light to medium, but must be sipped. The main thing I noticed was the carbonation. Itís ironic that the label says Flat. If they could make this much less fizzy, it would be a very good Porter.

Poured a bomb, I hope the other 5 arenít this way. A beautiful dark chocolate aroma and black licorice hint comes through. Great taste but I think this needs to sit a bit and be revisited in a few months. The palate is great but again, with time, this would be awesome. With a little tweaking, this could be up there with Bells Expedition Stout
