The Flat12 Porter is inspired by the robust porters favored by the Industrial-age working men of Europe. We chose to emphasize balance from a combination of dark grains including brown malt, which was the primary roasted grain of the time. This Flat12 creation is smooth and balanced with slight roast and chocolate notes, yet it’s not heavy, just like a good porter should be. ABV: 5.5% IBU: 34.1

Pours a almost black but you can see hints of red when held to a light. Small tan head that settled down to a film. No lacing. Aroma is very roasty. Taste is malty, roasty, chocolate, coffee and when you wait around the bitterness really lingers on the tongue. One of the best porters I have had.

Pours nearly black with a very large tan head. Smell is roasted malt, slightly sour dark fruit....quite metallic. Taste is burned coffee grounds..dry, ashy, unpleasant. I’ll have to revisit this one, judging by the numbers, I must have got a bad bottle, because this was not good.

Bottle - Deep murky brown with a huge creamy tan head. Nose is roasty chocolate with metal notes and a bit of mild milky cream. Taste is a like a watery chocolate milkshake infused with coffee. Nutty coffee on the finish, with a bit of bitter roast. Thinnish body, but the carbonation creams it up a lot. Solid stuff.

8/11/12. GTMW. Light black/dark brown pour with a nice brown head. Nice roast and light chocolate on the aroma with touches of cream and just a hint of fruitiness. Nice flavor as well, big chocolate and coffee with some cream. Not overwhelmingly heavy or cloying. Tasty!

Bottle thanks to StFun! Dark brown pour, plenty of foamy head and an aroma of slightly roasty chocolate. Flavor is nice and aggressively chocolatey, nuts and dry, light and just a little spiciness. Great solid porter worth picking up!

Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 08/09/2012. Dark brownish-pour with a thin light tan head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and mild hops. Light to medium body with a roasty character and notes of chocolate malt, coffee and hops. The finish is grainy malt and coffee. Above average overall.

Pouring at GTMW 2012. Dark rust brown colored pour, small soapy brown head. Nice lightly swet aroma good roast bitter chocolate/coccoa notes. Avg palate. A well done porter flavor follows the aroma a nice dry finish leaves a touch of piney resin on my toungue. Very enjoyable.
