COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Flat12 Porter is inspired by the robust porters favored by the Industrial-age working men of Europe. We chose to emphasize balance from a combination of dark grains including brown malt, which was the primary roasted grain of the time. This Flat12 creation is smooth and balanced with slight roast and chocolate notes, yet it’s not heavy, just like a good porter should be. ABV: 5.5% IBU: 34.1

Dark pour with a chocolate aroma and flavor. A strong chocolate note with this beer which I greatly prefer over the regular coffee undertones of many porters.

Sampler at Flat 12. Darker brown, substantial head. Nose is some roasted coffee and quite a bit of earthiness. Taste is some sweet, more bitter. Not too heavy on the palate. A little too dirty tasting for me, and not like there’s something wrong, but just like the roast is too much I guess for the lighter body. It’s not bad, though.

On tap. Poured a very dark brown with a tight, fluffy head. Good lacing. Smelled overwhelmingly of chocolate with some roast. Flavor is chocolate and gingerbread. Very dry finish. A very good, well-rounded porter.

Draft. Deep brown body with a frothy tan head, mostly lasting. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, nuts, dark chocolate with a hint of caramel. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery turning smooth texture, moderate carbonation. Dry finish with a slight metallic taste. the dominant tastes are roast and coffee with undertones of chocolate. Nice.

From a pint glass at Snap’s. Pours super dark brown and the medium tan head is small and fades to a thin film. Nose is toasted popcorns, sweet bread, heavy rich chocolate and light caramels. Flavor is sweet caramel, milk chocolate and sweet and bitter finish but not heavy sweet just easy drinking sweet. mouthfeel is smooth and full bodied for such a small beer.

Pretty good. Very drinkable. Texture was nice, but I wanted a bit more. Still a quality beer.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark dark brown with a thin light tan head. Aroma of charred/roasted malt, bitter chocolate, hint of coffee. Flavor of parmesean cheese and roasted malt. Decent porter, but I liked their stout better. 7/4/7/4/14 (3.6/5)
