Indra (1825), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Jun 9, 2008 From handpump at the brewpub. Seemed pretty cold for the serving method, though. Aroma is slight, but what is there is gently fruity and malty with notes of honeyed toast, faint citrus (pineapple) and herbs. Hazy orange-copper color with a thick, lasting head. Flavor is a good blend of malt and hop, the level of bitterness remaining fairly low, however. Malts are gently sweet with light caramel and more fruit on the finish, drying out a touch here as well. Mouthfeel is exceedingly smooth and creamy, body is light-medium. Easy-going, enjoyable.
BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Jul 30, 2008 This one has a wonderful bready maltiness, with a bit of a burnt crust, and some refreshing floral hop notes. Some sweet caramel maltiness comes through as it beings to warm. Quite enjoyable. topherh (250), Kearney, Missouri, USA Apr 14, 2008 Poured from a beer engine at the brewpub. Pours a reddish-orange. Slightly hoppy aroma. Flavor is mostly mild hops and a little malt. drfabulous (686), Columbia, Missouri, USA Oct 24, 2007 A pretty basic ESB. While the waiter promised "hoppy," the beer is not hoppy. Still, it is an ok ESB. I won’t call it rich, but slightly more bitter than the pale ale. It’s a Flat Branch. Drnk_McDermott (1536), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Aug 8, 2007 Draft sampler, 4 Aug 07. Flat Branch’s web site has separate listings for this and its Hudson’s ESB, and lists this as ia regular beer. Color is dark copper, but pretty clear. Smell is a big whiff of bitter English hops. Taste is the same way; a strong bitter component that just won’t go away. Writing this rating up from notes, I see I failed to even mention the malt. It’s out of balance and British bitter all the way.
