COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Barley Wine is a rich winter ale that is equally a dessert beer. This years brew used European malts combined with English and American hop varietals. The overall profile is balanced between malt and hops, with a moderate bitterness and a slightly floral hop finish. The bitterness is calculated at 72 BU’s and alcohol at 8.8% ABV. This is a great winter warmer. Come in and try it for yourself! Note: Each year is a new recipe and can vary greatly.

Dark copper colored body with a thin khaki head. Nose of caramel with a hint of citrus. There is also some leather. The taste was sweet abc gum and nasty cheap tobacco. There is also some burnt bread crust. Pretty strange as it is like half English and half US style barley wine. There is some warming boozy character in the finish.

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2012 I had this side by side with the 2004 version at the brewpub. 2010 - Darker copper color, clear, can see through it, visible bubble carbonation, weak head retention. I would not peg it as a barleywine, came off as a stronger English IPA. The hops were definitely dominated by English varietals. The beer was compact in flavor, the English hops surrounded an rather clean (for the style) malt heavy brew. The malts very indistinct past that. The residual sugars were strong enough to cover up most of the bitterness. Not sweet though, drinkable, just not interesting. 7/3/7/3/14.

Tap at the restaurant. Poured a darker amber color with a smaller white head that went rather quickly. Left a little lacing on the glass as it went. Aroma was molasses, other fruits, and spices. Medium body, malty backbone. Flavor was dominated by spices and alcohol was more present as the beer warmed. Good beer.
