3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at WA Frost and Company in St. Paul. Amber with a thin head. Aroma was malt and a hint of spices. Taste starts out sweet and spicey with notes of apple, caramel and bread. As it warms it becomes more hoppy and bitter. Overall very well done. I look forward to seeing this in bottles at some point.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Amber colour with a slight haze and a nice white head. Doughy aroma with belgian yeast notes. More yeast in the flavour with some fruity qualities and a bit of hops. Well done.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Had this on tap at the Old Chicago in Uptown Minneapolis, MN. Pours a deep coppery amber brew with a thin, fast dissolving off white head. Lacing is sparce. Aroma has scent of dry apples, some bread biscuits, some flowery hops. Taste is dry, yeasty, some figs with a dry fruity finish. The aftertaste is dry and more apples. A very good balance beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at Old Chicago in uptown. I like the fruity malty aroma, more of a Belgian to the nose. Nice touch of hops in the flavor, with the fruit and biscuit malts rounding it out. This is a good balanced beer. I am happy to see another brewery from around here that isn’t afraid to step out of the box.

Tap at Barley Johns. Pours clear amber/copper with a small white head. Nice light belgian yeast aroma with a bit of hop and apple. Taste of Apple/Pear and just a bit of herbal hop presence. A very nice clean dry not overpowering beer. like a belgian, pale, hefe mix, but nothing overdone. I really appreciate brewery’s doing something different.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 25, 2007 On tap at the Happy Gnome. To my taste this was wonderful. Copper colored pour, aromas of grass and variations of many farmhouse smells. Flavor of pear skin and orange, dried fruits. Barren dryness, distant but powerful sourness, and subtle herbal hops. An extremely well-balanced and interesting sessioner.

I understand the Orval comparison but it doesn’t quite get to that level. It has the aroma of a sweet tripel with fruit and herbs, and hops, like Chouffe Houblon. Amber color, and one of the driest beers I have ever had.

Hmmm... I’m a little concerned because MilkmanDan points this out as being "straw gold" in color. The waitress at the Gnome brought us all glasses of a dark copper beer when we ordered this. Will investigate further. Dried apple aroma with a smattering of herbs. Bone dry "taste" that is very yeasty and bready. Good hop flavor. Not bad at all.
