Black Helicopter is a coffee oatmeal stout made with locally roasted Columbia coffee beans from Paradise roasters in Ramsey, MN. What makes this coffee beer different you ask? This is the first beer of its kind made with coffee brewed on a Clover machine, which uses a unique mechanism for extracting the subtle and complex flavors of a coffee bean. Don’t miss this chance to taste this one of a kind brew.

Pours almost black with a quickly dissolving head. Strong coffee and chocolate aromas. Surprisingly thin and a bit too carbonated. Good overall but needs more complexity and body to be a great stout.

Sampled at the brewery. Pours a day brown with a grayish brown head that dissipates quickly and completely. Aroma is full of roasted malts with dark grains, roasted malts and a hint of chocolate backing. Flavor combines dark grains, roasted malts and coffee but is a touch thin.

Huge coffee nose, more coffee on palate along with some roasted malt and chocolate. Was kinda thin on finish.

Bottle. Pitch black with some tan foam that disappears quickly. Roasty aroma, chocolate. Very similar flavor with added creaminess. Solid for such a low ABV.

Bottle that had been cellared almost a year - jet black with almost no head. Strong black coffee taste but a low grade for the palate. Seemed too thin and had a taste on the back end (lemon?) that just didn’t belong in a stout. It was OK but I’ve had much better.

650ml bottle courtesy of kbutler. Thanks. Pours a dense black color with a small tan head that slowly recedes to a film. The aroma is strong with coffee, coffee grounds and a bit of dark chocolate. The taste is dominated by the coffee, with walnuts, chocolates and mocha playing effective supporting roles. The palate is silky smooth with soft carbonation. Finishes long with lingering coffee. Overall: A fine coffee stout. good stuff.

Strong coffee stout here that represents the local Dunn Bros. Slightly less acidy than other coffee stouts.

Near black with quickly dissipating light brown head. Great medium roast coffee aroma with malty oat background. The flavor is mildly sweet but has the bitterness of straight coffee. Lighter in body with lively small carbonation. Really enjoy the aroma, but wish the beer was a little heavier.

22oz bottle courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Pours a stout brown with a tan head. Nose is roasted malts, some roasted coffee, some earth, and some dark fruit. Flavor is a bit of roast and coffee in the beginning with dark fruit taking over towards the end. I don’t know if this one just oxidized or what, but the burst of dark fruit in the end took away from the whole experience. Medium in body and lingering roast and coffee in the finish.
