Sampled from growler, supplied by joebrew. Pours an opaque dark brown colored brew with a thin and fast dissolving off-white head that dissipates clean. Aroma of toasted dark malt, some coconut, a hint of flowery hops and light spice. Taste is medium bodied, with flavors of toasted dark malt, coconut, a hint of burnt marshmallow, popcorn and flowery hops. Finish has a burnt dark malt aftertaste with some coconut character.

Tap. Aroma is mostly sweet shaved coconut. Reminds me of an even more sugary Malibu. Thin, watery, and lacking of much for the flavor. Watered down coconut water is all I get. Lighter body. My first Cygnus let down.

Pours deep brown with off white head. Aroma is a nice coconut, almond, and chocolate base with some sweetness at the end. Taste is similar with big coconut and chocolate mixing well, not overboard. Great brew.

A very strong coconut aroma and flavor. This contrasts strongly to the relAtively dry Cygnus base. I would have preferred a bit more sweetness to balance the coconut but solid nonetheless.

GROWLER: oh yeah, coconut porter!!! Dark pour, nose and taste of roasted coconut & roated malt. Awesome!

From Joebrew’s growler. Coconut in the flavor and aroma with a good porter base. This is not the most full flavored coconut beer I have had, but it has been done very well. Very smooth palate.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2009 Nice big sample at the brewery this afternoon. Poured dark black with medium carbonation that quickly subsided and smells of coconut oil (SPF30 maybe?) Flavor starts with pleasant mellow coconut, then into toasted malts and finished sweet and well balanced. Not the best coconut beer I’ve ever had, but definitely worth picking up a growler (which I did). September 3, 2009 Re-rate. New growler and better balanced than the previous sample. I can see this being a regular buy if they ever bottle this for stores.
