Aroma of nuts. Lots of hazelnuts, both in the aroma and flavor. Black. Heavily carbonated. Some roasted malt.

Tap. Deep brown in color with a minimal off-white head. Sweet aroma that reminds me of Karamel Korn (Dairy Queen for the win!), some chocolate, and hazelnut coffee. Taste is more hazelnut coffee, bittersweet chocolate, and maybe some lactose(?). I’m not sure on that last one, but this is fairly sweet. Medium bodied, but a bit lighter than I was expecting for a porter. Overall this is very good, and possibly my favorite of the X-1 variants that I’ve tried.

Deep brown pour with thin tan head, aroma is chocolate, hazelnut, and more hazelnut with a touch of roast. Taste is sweet hazelnut mixing well with chocolate and coffee and finishing sweet. Good infusion, a bit more subtle than the others but still great.

Growler pour today at the brewery. Dark black pour (complete with a whole hazelnut that fell into my glass!), tons of carbonation. Aroma was rich, nutty and a little roasty. Flavor was slightly sweet and had a light roasted body and finished with the nice expected earthy nuttyness. Flat Earth did it again, I really like these infusions.

Growler courtesy of Skyview. Dark brown color with a medium head. Strong aroma of hazelnut. Taste is very malty and quite dry. Woody. Dusty and a little chalky. Light chocolate. Hazelnut is definitely there, but manages to blend very well with the other flavors. Excellent.

growler from Skyview. Pours light brown with an off-white head. Aroma is loaded with hazelnut, and smells quite similar those hazelnut coffee creamers. Roasted malt is also present, but plays a secondary role along with some chocolate and espresso. The taste is standard for a porter, with roasted malt, chocolate, but the finish is pure hazelnut that is slightly toasty. The mouthfeel is medium, and the carbonation is excessive for the style which detracted from the beer a bit. This was good, but I would probably be unable to drink a full pint of this as it got to be a bit much towards the end of the sample I had.

Sampled from 64-oz growler at the brewery in St Paul, MN. Pours an opaque near black brew with a thick creamy off-white head that slowly dissolve and leaves behind an excellent lacing. This is the first porterfest version beers to retain a decent head. Aroma of dark chocolate, dark roasted malt, a touch of coffee and vanilla. Taste is full bodied, light carbonation, smooth, with more flavors of dark chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Finish is when the hazelnut flavor comes out with a slight dry bitter aftertaste.
