Tap at the Bier Stein. Medium brown pour, moderate tan head. Vanilla and bourbon hit the nostrils first with leather and burnt sugar backing them up. Flavor profile is complex with bourbon, lots of vanilla, dark fruit, leather and light hops. Booze is fairly well integrated but definitely noticable. Nice beer.

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2012 Tap... Had this a ways back, but it left quite an impression. A boozy, bourbony sweet barleywine. Strong flavors, dark sugars and fruitiness. Burnt tones, pastry like dessert qualities, hop bitterness, and some booziness.

Draft at The Bier Stein in Eugene. Last rater hit it: pours root beer color with little to no head. Very light nose, mainly consisting of vanilla and bourbon. Flavor is fairly balanced with all this going on at 13%. A lot of sweet vanilla up front, with a bit of leather, dark plums and fruits, and a nice hop singe leading the flavors. This all winds up in a fairly alcoholic bourbony finish, that isn’t overdone. Nice lingering bitter bourbon notes. Thick, but somehow dangerously drinkable at the same time. Good stuff!!!

Draft at Belmont. Pours a clear root beer brown with bright, somewhat flabby small head. Pretty balanced nose for 12.9% BA barleywine. Cola, tobacco, leather, hints of date, vanilla, and French oak. Smooth and warming up front, dates, dried cherries, toffee, vanilla, cola, tobacco, the bitterness from the hops and French oak meld well together in the finish. Well done and smooth for such a beast.
