Flavorful Dunkel, could use more color and textured. Compared to other Dunkels’ it’s rather bland.

The beer pours reddish copper with a dense tan head. The aroma has thick bread, toasted malt, dark fruit, berries, lager smoothness and ice cream malt. It a medium smooth body with very light carbonation. The taste starts with the aroma notes, but less fruity and more malty. The finish has creamy caramel and dunkel smoothness. Quite solid for the style and lots of flavor for a sub 5% beer.

Nut brown with a short lasting head. Malty aroma, with nuts. Taste is malty, with notes of nuts, chocolate and caramalt. A nice bitter ending.

This was far too malty for me. The flavor was sweet with a strong malt backbone. Couldn’t do it.

Comes in occasionally to Scheckin Karlsruhe. I always jump on this beer when I can find it. I don’t like the standard Flensburger Pils as its way too bitter for me but here married against a deep malt and sweet Turkish coffee it’s lovely. Not subtle by any means...rich roast followed by crisp bitter hops but it’s a great beer for those winter months and at only 4.8 it packs a punch. Just let down by that mass produced metallic nose and hint throughout.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2016 Pours brown into the class with a creamy head. A very appealing aroma of rich roasted malts, caramel and nut greets the nose. Taste is malty, but with a distinct sourness that takes the beer in an unexpected direction. The underlying maltiness and unexpected sourness collide with the light hops bitterness in the finish. The palate is generally creamy and smooth throughout, with just the faintest watery note. Simple and unexciting. The beer is a promise unfulfilled, with a wonderful scent, but with the ingredients never reaching a harmonious conclusion. Still, this is not an unpleasant diversion.

Colore rosso, schiuma compatta bianca. Aroma di malto e nocciole. Al palato malto, accenno tostato. Leggera e piuttosto beverina, carbonazione bassa.

Malty aroma with notes of espresso. Clear mahogany colour. Flavours of coffee, chocolate, and pumpernickel bread. Medium body with lively carbonation. Nice and sessionable.
