3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 22, 2006 Second update. Swing-top. Very pale yellow pour - almost clear. The head is a thing of beauty, rocky and fluffy white. Grassy nose, herby, slight floral hoppiness, expecting bitterness. Taste is medium-bitter and hoppy with hay and spice, slight metallic note to start. Lasting, bitter aftertaste. Medium body, can get quite creamy. Rating hasn’t changed, it’s been a consistently good brew each time. Now, if only Flensburger can get away from the tinny hop extracts...this could be a masterful Northern Pils.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Flensburger Pilsner pours to a beautiful, bright, golden color with a bright white head, and a good bit of carbonation. The clarity of this beer is really brilliant, and this might only apply to beer geeks, but it really is a thing of beauty to look at. The nose on this beer is fantastic with lots of vibrant, herbal, grassy aromatics that invite you in. The palate on this beer is fantastic as well, with really crisp pilsner malt flavor on a smooth, round, clean body. Flensburger Pilsner finishes with more crisp malt up front, then ends with a very dry, herbal hop bitterness that lingers on the tongue.
This is a flawless example of German Pils and is lager brewing at its best. Sold, clean, delicious, drinkable beer. Das Flenst is a beer you will want to drink a lot of, and I could see myself pounding this beer with impunity. Its hoppy and crisp character, make it a perfect match for a number of classic German dishes, and spicy fare as well. Personally I would not match this one with food. This is a great drinking beer. Sure beer goes great with food, but sometimes you just got to drink beer, and forget about what food goes with it.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a 12 oz. distinctive shaped Flensburger flip-top short brown bottle with a "Best Before" date on the back label, 07/10/06, that I going to assume is a euro calendar date. Made a very good appearance, poured the palest clear golden with a large foamy, rocky white head that reduced to thin cake-like lacing with a great deal of ringed sticking. Had a big grassy hop aroma with an underlining sweet bready maltiness. Good carbonation and a slick, smooth light bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. Very tasty, sweet bread maltiness, a mild dry grassy hop bitterness and a dry, crisp sweet malty finish, very smooth and balanced overall.

poptopper at groovestation in Dresden, Germany. Maybe after a few tallies of erdinger may have warped my sense of taste, but for a pilsner, this was pretty smooth. small biter hops tap dance around with a floral arrangment of grassy tones. a little creamy on the in and down, and even a bit of banana bread. again, a pilsner i could enjoy often which is rare. one of the better pilsners Ive had while in germany this time around.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: SEP 17, 2011 Bottled. Light golden with a dense, long-lasting white head. Malty aroma. Flavor too, mixed with the north-German bitterness. Medium body and bitter finish. Rating: 4-3-5-3-10-2.5. 051208
Bottle. A clear, golden beer with a small, dense, white head. Pale malts and fruityness on the nose. Grass. The flavor has some bitterness, could use a bit more though. Grass, pale malts and a slight peppery hint. Medium body. A quite decent beer, that’s for sure. 110917

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled. A straw coloured beer with a large nice white head which stays all drink. The aroma is mellow, with some creamy notes and a little hoppiness. The taste has some bready malt as well as some grassy hop. Quite nice but a little light bodied.

Pours pale yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is grainy with a little hops, resins i think. Light bodied. Taste grains and actually a little smokey flavor with a tiny hop bitterness. Thanks to Megan for bringing this fresh to me from Germany.
