The german wheat beers are travelling north. This fairly new wheat sets itself apart from the typical bavarian by its unique taste and the typical flensburger bottle.

12 oz flip top bottle. Nice looking cloudy golden pour with a thick and firm white head. Aroma is light but very pleasant and typical of a decent hefewiezen, with banana and citrus yeastiness. Flavor is well in the zone for a quality German hefe, with lemony tartness, a good and prominent wheat flavor, and a light hoppy bitterness. Very good if not great. Just a bit more watery than some I have had, and the flavor is not as bold as the best of the style. No negatives here, just not a beer that stands out from the rest except for the swing top bottle. Very enjoyable. $2.25 for a single at Broudy’s, Orange Park, FL.

Flip-top bottle (BB 04/2006)
Hazy dark orange, small creamy white head. Dry malty, papery nose - not very hefeweizen-like. Papery cardboard wheaty flavor, quite dry mouthfeel. Maybe bottle was a bit past its prime.

From Northern Germany I’m told. The banana is there but it is light. Very light citrus. Flavor is more crisp and clean than thick, but it has some sweetness and all around no flaws are to be found. The swingtop is an unneccessary expense. Cloudy and some sediment.

Hazy golden. Some nice hefe notes. Rich with banana and sticky wheat. Perhaps the most banana-y hefe I’ve ever smelled. Medium bodied, good esters. More bananas in the flavor, but not too much (overripe character I’ve experienced) This is quite a decent hefe.

Half way in between a crystall clear and unfiltered wheat beer.Very strange to see a Bavarian-style bannana wheat beer this far north in Germany. The Flensburger brewery has yet to disappoint me.

Aroma holds some slightly smokey notes at first and a bit of a hot dog water smell. Then some mild yeasty bannana aroma comes in. Cloudy yellow in color with a lasting thumb thick white head. More hot dog water int he fore and more mild smoked flavors...smoked like a little smokie..not like a Rauch. Very mild bannan notes. no spice or cloves. Has a smoked wheat grain taste that is pervasive and foreign to my palate.

UPDATED: JUN 19, 2006 Foggy gold. Gigantor, frothy, white head. Aroma of grainy wheat malt and subtle yeast. Same flavor. Refreshing. Medium, tingly palate. Drinkable, not exciting. It was my 6th rate of the evening, I’ll retry and rerate if necessary. ReRate on fresh palate adds a dusty, light fuitiness in both flavor and aroma.
