2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
580 yen bottle from Umeda’s Oktoberfest(2012), 7% but it didn’t taste that strong. A mellow dark gold color with an interesting malty taste. Not bad plus I love the little sing-top bottles. A bit medicinal in flavor...

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml bottle, poured into Kasteel chalice. A: Pale amber, small fast disappearing head, minimal lacing, clear. S: Clove, banana, quite agreeable. T: Molasses, clove, banana, notes of hay, wheaty finish. M: Low carbonation, chewy texture, smooth. O: Initially I was slightly concerned by the absence of the trademark Flensburger "plop" (no sniggering) but this was pretty decent, although lacking multiple layers. Seemed more Bavarian than far northern German, I should have picked up a few more.

Honey pour with fizzy head. Vegetal corn aroma with a bit of spice. Metallic, sweet taste with the corn ctill coming thru. Unpleasant metallic finish. Not impressed.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
330ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours clear pale gold with a thin white head. Malt and metal aromas, light spice. Taste has malt caramel sweetness, something astringent. OK, but not great.

Bottle from Bierpost.com!
Pours strong golden yellow, clear, with flat head. Smells malty-sweet, spicy and floral hoppy. Starts with pale sweet malts, floral hops and some cereals. Goes into a musty-hoppy and sweet grainy finish.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
330ml flip-top bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long.
Clear light amber colour; Less than one-quarter finger head with soapy white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Very small lacing and notable carbonation; Very sweet aroma of full malt which can be smelt half a foot away, plus caramel, very light toffee, raisin, molasses, sweet bread, faint hint of citrus and very light grass; Medium sweet taste of thin lager-ale malt hybrid, with light cherry / red fruit, biscuits, thick white loaf, fairly light alcohol, faint citrus and grass; Mid to light body, close to watery palate; Mouth feel is more of English ale than a German lager, with sweet, ESA-like red fruit character dominates. Bready taste also quite strong despite watery body. Weird; The 7% booze can be felt but pretty lightweight, quite well expressed and managed; Hoppiness is hint of citrus and grass in nose and taste. No bitterness for finish; Fairly dry after taste, quite sweet to mouth.
Comments: So I thought I was done with the lowly Flens and, lo and behold, I saw this not-so-badly-rated bock and I went for it! I must say this is by far the most decent Flens beer I’ve had with no foul taste to pick on. As a maibock? Well, it taste a little over-sweet, too watery, and too ESA-ish for its own good. It’s on the decent mark, but it can do better than this.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Leighton. Bright clear amber beer, little white head. Light smooth palate with modest fine carbonation. Light sweet malt, touch of cream. A little caraway nuttyness. Light dried fruits. Finishes semi dry. Overall a sweet bock, but fine.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle at Bruce’s. It pours clear amber with a medium white head. The nose is earthy, icing sugar, vanilla, light toast, caramel and honey. The taste is sweet dough, sugar, light toast, spice, earth, brioche, candy and dried fruit with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Doesn’t do much for me. So-so.
