Cola black with a nice beige head. The two bottles I had were kinda flat. Muted roasted malts with just a hint of raisin on the finish. Pretty good.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
I poured a 12oz bottle into a nonic pint glass. There was a code on the bottle I believe indicating it was bottled on May 17. I got this at #BBC13.
Appearance: Typical opaque black body. Forms a large, light brown, sponge-y head which doesnít completely dissipate and leaves minor lacing.
Smell: Mostly a standard porter aroma, but an odd scent of cherry and chalk, like a chewable antacid tablet.
Taste: Because of the smell, I was a little hesitant about drinking Gasperís Porter. Though the first few sips were quite good and relieved any anxiety I had about the beer. The nose actually is a good indicator of the taste. There is the dark malt flavor here you expect in a porter. On the sweeter end with only light bitterness and no roasted or burnt malt character, which makes it a true porter rather than a stout. I get some distinct dark cherry flavor on the second half coupled with a chalky taste and sensation. Itís probably cocoa powder, which isnít bad at all, just a little unusual. I think they could play around with the cherry character and make it the star of the show, but as it stands, the net result is a pretty good beer.
Drinkability: While Gasperís Porter might not break any new ground in the taste department, itís definitely a high achiever as far as drinkability goes. The mouthfeel is full, soft and slightly energetic. Itís not thick, sticky or chewy in any way. It goes down silky smooth and leaves just a lightly bitter dark chocolate aftertaste. At 6.1% ABV itís certainly full-bodied, but not obese. Probably best enjoyed with or as dessert, though itís awfully tempting to throw back two in a row.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours an opaque brown/black with very little/no head. Has a nice cocoa aroma. The flavor is a lil bitter and the palate is thin for a stout.

12oz bottle poured into glass. Iíll keep this short and brief. I wanted to like this beer but itís just a little too hoppy and bitter for this style. Ease off the hops a bit and maybe it could work.

2.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
UPDATED: APR 7, 2013 roasted malt on the nose. hints of chocolate and cocoa. dark liquid with a frothy brown head. it is as described, dark as midnight. medium sweetness, lightly sour, with a very fruity after taste. light body, thin feel, fizzy, and ends with fruit. i get more fruit than roast-ness. itís good tasting, but not what i expected for a "robust porter," and not really what i was seeking, which reflects in my "taste" and "overall" scoring. otherwise itís fair and i really dig the label art. (the more i drank this, the less i enjoyed it. i will NOT buy this again, especially for $10 a six-pack! i probably will NOT finish the 4 remaining beers.)
