COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark as the midnight sea, this medium bodied porter combines flavors from 8 malts, including 4 distinct chocolate malts (Victory, Chocolate, Rye and Midnight Wheat) with fresh nugget and cascade hops that work together to form a harmonious balance of aroma and flavor. Imparting a dry roasted malt character, with subtle hints of cocoa, licorice and toffee, this brew possess a balanced hop spice and malty finish.

This is the same beer as the beachside porter, I have had both....not bad at all. My detailed tasting notes are listed under the beachside porter.

Pours a dark caramel brown color with a crimson tint. A compact, spongy tan head settles slowly, leaving nice ribbons of lacing behind. The aroma leans heavily towards the chocolaty side, resembling something like an old school malted milkshake. Caramel and mocha are detectable as well. Flavors continue this theme, with chocolate and caramel malts showing well. The coffee component, combined with a hint of earthy hops, lends some balance. Falling short on mouthfeel, it is well carbonated but a touch thin for the style. Overall, I found this to be a surprisingly nice, enjoyable, "summertime" porter.

afterglow (1047) - Florida, USA - MAY 18, 2008
Bottle courtesy Degarth. Pours a clear brown amber with a small light tan head. Looks like a Brown Ale. Aroma of light roasted malt and caramel. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. Good.

Courtesy of Degarth. Pours clear amber with tan head. Doesnít look as dark as most porters Iíve tried. The aroma is roasted malts, molasses, mild caramelization and no real sign of even faint burnt malts. The taste is mildly roasty with some just as mild burnt malts, faint earthiness, some kettle caramelization and notes of grainy malts. Pretty nice but not much of a porter influence as I think a porter would taste like, in my opinion.

355ml bottle shared with JesseM, RyanMac13, beerguyrayn. my bottle. pours brown ale brown with red licorice aromas. lots of sweet aromas but all the sweetness is a little disturbing. thin flavour profile with atificial sweetness after every sip. no detectable hops. im glad we started with this one cause it wound have been even more dissapointing later on.

12 oz. bottle shared with Matt7215, RyanMac13, and Beerguyryan. Pours a translucent brown, aroma is decent, grainy, maybe some chocolate. The taste is pretty much a disaster. Nothing really porter-like about this one, itís more of a poorly made brown ale. No hop bitterness, and thereís this weird dog-breath flavour in the finish/aftertaste. Yuck! But thanks for sharing Matt.

Dark cloudy appearence, sweet aroma, interesting flavour with notes of chocolate, unique choice.

Bottle thanks to BigMilly8. Fills the pint glass with a caramel brown but appears thin and no head forms even with a vigorous pour. Nose is of caramel, chocolate malt, a hint of roast, and a rather unpleasant sourness. Taste is nearly identical, with a watered down body. Some chocolate, caramel, and roasted malt. With a touch bitter hops and, yet again, this odd sourness. In no way does this resemble a Porter, and overall not my cup of....beer, coming dangerously close to a drain pour.

Pours thin and blackish red with small off white head. Coffee and chocolate malt aroma. Thin body with a coffee and slight malt taste. It was better than I thought it would be.

Clear, dark amber pour with off-white head. Sweet aroma with notes of caramel with only slight hints of roast. The flavor is moderately sweet and very lightly bitter. The finish has a vague taste of roasted malts. Crisp, clean mouthfeel with lively carbonation. Far from a robust, roasted malty porter. Still, you could drink lots of this because it goes down easily. But itís not much of a porter. So I am dividing the rating between a mediocre porter and a drinkbable ale. Thanks BigMilly8.
