2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Rich deep amber with a persistent small head, bands of lace. Taste is confusing - there is some malt, but there is also an odd flavor of stale sweet dough. Combine that with understated hops and mild alcohol, and it becomes somewhat undrinkable. Surprising that in a brew that has a high abv, so little else is delivered. Not recommended.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks beerandbeyond. Clear deep golden. Aroma of stale hops and lots of malt, a bit cookie-ish. Sweet malty caramelly flavor, a bit cookie-ish, with a bitter and slightly alcoholic finish. Medium-bodied, a bit heavy. Seems old.

12 ounce thanks to BMMillsy. Malty with big fruit tones. Pretty sweet. Nothing stands out too much overall, though. Not sure of bottle age.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Clear deep golden color with a small off white head.
Light fruity hop aroma with caramel and faint floral notes.
Sweet and a bit cloying malt flavors, alcohol, hi bitterness and some marmalade. Full bodied, heavy and not very pleasant.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from Knightly Spirits, Kissimmee, Florida. This is a golden beer with a very strong citrus fruit and peppery hop flavour, slight sour and tea leaf notes with a warming alcoholic finish.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Smell of yeast, caramel. Amber colour, yellow-ish head. Aroma of alcohol, cognac, oak, mint. Finishes with apple, cough mixture, some nuts. Very little like IPA overall. Very oily texture, fizzy carbon. Sweet due to alcohol level, slightly sour, medium bitter.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright orange-caramel color with a huge creamy orange-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was sour, funky, tangy, earthy, piney, oddly vegetal and had a hint of tropical fruits. The flavor was very tangy and very sweet with notes of brown sugar, vegetal malts and tropical fruits. Long finish and full body. Odd.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle. Pours an amber color, with small off white head. Interesting aroma that resembles more of a barley wine than an IPA. Malty flavor with a bit of hoppiness. Definite warm alcohol notes. Not bad, but strange for an Imperial IPA, definitely not hoppy enough and more like a barley wine.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
I poured a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. There was no freshness date. I got this as part of my #BBC13 haul.
Appearance: Orange proper hue, clear body with some CO2 visible. Forms an average size, ivory, frothy head which retains and laces well.
Smell: Surprisingly mild nose. Only hints of stone fruit and some alcohol.
Taste: Thereís an indication of "DIPA" on the label to Florida Beer Swamp Ape, though I think it might be better classified as a blonde barleywine (if such a thing were to exist). Though big and strong, itís not quite as bitter or hoppy as I expect in a double IPA. This is a thick, sticky, almost chewy beer with noticeable sweetness for the style. I appreciate its non-conformity.
Mild bitterness at the tip of tongue, followed by an almost nectar-like sensation of sweetness (and texture). Lots of pale maltiness and to the point that itís remarkably sweet, but not cloying. Thereís additional bitterness on the back end, but thereís no hop bite per se. Dryness balances out the malt character and thereís some alcohol warmth as well. Probably better classified as an American Strong Ale, but regardless itís still a tasty, satisfying, well-balanced brew. Iíll take it.
Drinkability: Beers as big as Swamp Ape tend to be beastly. After all, this ale is 10% ABV, which is pretty hefty. Fortunately, thereís only minimal alcohol presence, which is quite impressive. The mouthfeel is soft, but with noticeable weight. It goes down extremely smooth and thereís only trace dryness in the aftertaste. A nice change of pace beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a nice copper with a big but quickly dissipating tan head. Love the logo, I almost want to up the appearance rating! Alcohol and floral hops are the aromas here. The tables turn with the flavors, here the malt really overwhelms with sweetness. As it warms up a grainy cereal flavor starts to show itself. Thick and syrupy mouthfeel that foams up in the mouth.
