Firsthand accounts describe an intense beast with a potent aroma and bite. Proof that the elusive monster exists? Or proof that brewing with five distinct varieties of hops creates an unbelievable, relentlessly hopped India Pale Ale? One taste and you’ll know, Swamp Ape is for real.

Bottle from Eric and served in my GI IPA Tulip: Pours a clean deep golden/amber hue with an good head and some lace. The aroma smacks your alpha up with raw, rough and aggressive bittering hops and provides light tropical and apricot jammy fruit notes. Moderately dank, resiny and must I saw SWAMPY :-). Very light vapours of cotton candy, crystal and 6-row malts. Some pepper and clove esters too. The taste is almost as sharp and aggressive as the nose, very biting bitterness with dank earthy notes and plenty of hop spice undertones. A tad unbalanced and after half the bottle got to be a tad boring. No real malt character, just a lot of unfermented sugars. The mouth feel is pretty heavy for the genre, and as mentioned above quite aggressive with a heavy metallic and minerally finish. Must saw I have no desire to ever visit this one again but it was cool to try it once.<more akin to a sub-average American Barleywine than a DIPA>

This was a pretty poor double ipa. Tons of alcohol present more than anything else. The aftertaste is really quite poor and it’s too sweet.

A very nice beer that pours amber with a medium white head. Aroma is hops, citrus and caramel. A good and hoppy beer that is both earthy and sweet. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I prefer to drink DIPAs and ran across this beer In Florida. It was a pleasant surprise and would drink more. This is not the end-all DIPA, but Is a nice addition to my list of options. A sweet finish which veers away from the slightly bitter ending I prefer like I find in Victory DIrt Wolf.

On tap, a big in your face beer, pretty good balance for such a high ABV, the alcohol was slightly overpowering the hops which spoilt the overall effect I think. Well made but just to strong for its own good

Fresh bottle. Pours hazy orange with slight white head. Aroma is mixed citrus, wet hops. Taste is hop resin, biscuit, alcohol. A bit more earthy than I prefer in my DIPAs.
