2.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Vertical Bacon Strips (1699) - Asshat, - JUL 11, 2009
this is one of the most bizarre beers I’ve come across period. Poured out - to my amazement - a crystal clear medium brown with burnt orange tints, a tiny white cap that fizzes out very quickly leaving zero lacing. The aroma is completely messed up and a total surprise - thick fruit and fruity chocolate - nothing, nothing has every smelt like this before. A baffling mix of oranges, chocolate powder, semi-sweet chocolate and roses or some other flower. Either way, it’s fresh cut flowers and some greens to go along with it. However, when you transfer this crazy, unique aroma into flavour it doesn’t come across as pleasant since now you actually have to consume it. Sharp initially then you get hit by an almost indescribable flavour of perfumes, cocoa, dark caramel, unknown fruit and odd candy sweetness. Highly carbonated, slight sourness or not, dammit, I don’t even know anymore with this beer... I’m still drinking it somehow. Not much for after taste and it does leave a thin film in the mouth. Bizarre all the way. When I saw Floris and cholocate on the label I knew this would pretty much be equal to pure experimentation. I may totally hate this but I really have no clue as I’m still lifting up the glass to my lips automatically.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 18, 2012
This review was carried out in the ’Troll Keller’ Gent, Belgium: Jan 2009.
The 33cl bottle was poured into a fluted vase and it wouldn’t quiet fit in. The bar was dark but the beer appeared a deep amber, an off-white head sat on top.
It smelt like a chocolate orange.
The taste was of milk chocolate and raspberries, which I found a bit strange at first.
Fairly high carbonisation, but it couldn’t be called ’fizzy’.
The aftertaste was dry, an interesting beer and a pleasant aside from the heavier beers that followed.
0.8 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 2/20 Benzai (2723) - Oirschot, NETHERLANDS - MAY 13, 2012
Bottle @ a friends place. Gift from me for his birthday. He doesn’t like me anymore... Slightly hazy dark orange / brownish color, no head. Smell is indescribable: some weird chocolat-pudding and just awful. Taste is the same. I have no words for this.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 SaintMatty (2855) - Uppsala, SWEDEN - MAY 3, 2012
330ml Bottle (Delirium Cafe, Brussels) - Hazy copper/brown with a foamy head. Chocolate and malt in the aroma. Sweet, chocolatey, nutty and slightly roasted taste. Not too serious, but I have tasted much worse.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 DutchDrebus (1422) - Oirschot, NETHERLANDS - APR 13, 2012
This beer doesn’t taste chocolate like a stout, but more like chocolate milk. Not recommendable.
1.1 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20 RoodMormel (43) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - APR 1, 2012
Absolutely hidious, the smell, the taste pretty much anything. The appearance is decent but thats it. I couldn’t even finish it. After 4 sips it was enough for me and i almost had to throw up. Have no clue why they call it chocolate beer because i could’t detect it in the smell or taste
0.9 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 1/20 magdalar (475) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - MAR 31, 2012
33cl bottle.
Pours a hazy amber with an offwhite head.
Smells appalling; something akin to overly-sweetened grass (if you were to consider it normal to sweeten grass in the first place), with lots of chemical odors, and oranges. It smells faintly of chocolate only if you trick yourself into believing it.
Tastes somewhat like one of those chocolate-oranges you can buy, but without the melt-in-your-mouth goodness that redeems them. Extremely sweet, and not in a good way.
Medium bodied, medium carbonation, oily texture.
Finishes dry, but extremely cloying -- the orage sticks with you.
Drain pour; I never want to try this again.

Tydlig chockladdoft med toner av appelsin. Tydlig chokladsmak, söt och ganska jobbig i längden. Blaskig eftersmak

25cl bottle. Rubi colour with minimal off-white head. Aroma has notes of chocolate. Flavour is moderate sweet with an artificial taste of chocolate. Body is light. Carbonation is medium.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 gyllenbock (1920) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAR 20, 2012
Bottle bought at Beer Planet in Brussels, March 2012.
Brownish with a small head. Very light and sweet with a lot of chocolate. Also some notes of orange. No malt or hops. Difficult to rate, its drinkable but reminds more of a soda.
1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 SlovakSniper (1369) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 25, 2012
