4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 arkurzynski (849) - West Bend, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 17, 2012
Sample thanks to motortoddhead. Hazy copper, almost red, with thin white head. Nose is very enticing with tons of over-ripe fruit, banana, caramel, and Belgian candy. Flavor follows suit with an super sweet candied malt middle and sticky finish. A bit boozy. An ultimate sipper that I could get used to in the right mood.
2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 KickInChalice (772) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 13, 2012
From notes. First reviewed 12/7/2011. Served on tap in a cervoise at the brewpub at the anniversary party. From notes.
My pour is a very dark and cloudy tangerine color with golden edges. A small white cap is initially present but fades after just a few moments.
The aroma is generously sweet. Honey, clove, golden wheat, and light pale malt all go in the same direction. There is a soft spiciness from the yeast.
The flavor is intensely sweet. It is interesting for a sip or two, but then it becomes much too cloying. Pale malt and wheat bring out a honey and bread flavor, with some other light malts noticeable as well. The Belgian yeast stirs up the flavor with some cloves and general spice, but the yeast character feels outmatched. The finish is more sweetness.
This is a very full-bodied beer for the style. Combined with the light carbonation, and syrupy nature of such a big ABV beer, and this tripel really sits on my tongue.
Finishing my pour was fairly difficult. Between starting and finishing my glass, I consumed two other beers because I needed a break from how cloyingly sweet this was.

No heavy machinery after this one. Cloudy orange color. Apricot maybe in the aroma. Quite sweet. Unnecessarily big beer. Serving: bottle
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 jrallen34 (3445) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 22, 2011
bottle... dark golden copper, medium clarity, thin ring of head only... the aroma is not very good, weird yeast, burnt toast, honey, very hot, floral finish, all over the place and not very good... the taste is equally bad and right like the nose, sweet bomb, a touch of alcohol, sweet yeast... I was told to give this some time and it didn’t help much, too much alcohol and not very easy to drink, not sure what they were thinking
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 deyholla (3528) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 16, 2011
Bottle thanks to Sarah! Pours a murky orange brown with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of light fruit (apples) with spice and caramel as well as hint of flora and alcohol. Flavor starts with lots of sweet grain and a bit of spice as well as backing apple notes. Covers the booze well.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 HonkeyBra (2281) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - SEP 19, 2011
Sampled at GTMW in Madison and then picked up a bottle later. When I first had it I thought it was shockingly far off from the quality I’ve come to expect from Flossmoor. I had to give it a second chance. It has the aroma of honey, odd spices, bread, plastic, along with apparent booze. The flavor is sweet, hot, lots of honey and spice. There are also some dried fruits. A few notes of spicy yeast. The mouthfeel is thinnish and it gets a tad cloying and hot towards the finish. This is certainly and odd brew. What a weird beer.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Drake (5232) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - AUG 15, 2011
Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a hazy golden color with a medium sized creamy white head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of stone fruits, spicy notes, alcohol and berries. The taste is sweet malts, bready notes, spice, pepper and berries. Some alcohol warmth but its pretty well hidden for 15 percent. Medium bodied.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 TheAlum (3299) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - JUL 8, 2011
UPDATED: JUL 12, 2011 Free Mug Club draft on tap at the brewpub (Flossmoor, IL). A bit intimidating. Pours a murky orange gold hue, very murky with a decent sized bright white head that dies to a loose film with ok lacing overall. Aromas are a lot of bread yeast, touches of spice grow fairly strong, grassy and earthy hops, some touches of fruit but a lot of bread dough. Touches of apples, some bubblegum. Initial is sweet, some bubblegum and bread dough, touch of honey and bandaid-y essence. Weird, touches of yeast, alcohol is well hidden up front, a touch of dryness. A good deal of sweet honey, bread dough, sweet fruits, and touches of spicy yeast. Mellow fruits, into the finish it loses some life. Some phenols, some clove, bubblegum. Finish cleans up, bread dough and touches of yeast. Mellows up. A bit vague. Nose and palate don’t do it for me.. Flavor gets caught up in the beginning and really loses my focus.. Ugh.. but comes back to earth and solidifies itself in the middle. Finish is ok. Meh. I probably gave this a higher rating than it deserved. Be wary.. and don’t pay $15 for a bottle of this.
