3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 wedgie9 (1590) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 9, 2011
Tasted on draft at the Pre-DLD party at Flossmoor Station. Pours muddy red-brown with a thick beige head that leaves thick, even lace. The nose is an interesting blend of bitter resin hops and oaky aromas of caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, maple, and bourbon. The flavor is bitter resin hops up front, moving to vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, and bourbon oak. The body is full with average carbonation, and a long hoppy and bourbon finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 phaleslu (4430) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 2, 2011
Draft at the Pre-DLD event at Flossmoor Station. Pours a cloudy, dull brownish color with some greenish vegetal colors mixed in and a small khaki head. The aroma is a weird mish-mash of a dry-hopped ale and a bourbon barrel- herbal hops, lemon citrus, oak, caramel, vanilla, and bourbon. The flavor follows suit and seems to mellow things out and balance them a bit more. Light-medium bodied, with a sweet mouthfeel with malty and citrusy character and moderate carbonation. Very unusual hybrid of a beer but fun to try.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheAlum (4283) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - MAY 1, 2011
Draft on tap at Black Friday Event (Flossmoor, IL). Pours a murky dark amber near copper, great big haze, with a moderate frothy offwhite head, bigger, laces well and sticks around well. Aromas are a bigger barrel presence, wet oak and Bourbon spirit, vanilla, and wet hops, grapefruit and florals. A specific dry hop, with some toffee and biscuits. Initial is lighter bodied, a bit thinned out, wet oak up front, touches of Bourbon, moving into wet hops, citrus, piney resinous hops stay firm. A good sturdy hopping, moving into sweet sticky caramel, biscuits, and toast. Warm and bitter into the finish, it’s not overbarreled, seems well dry hopped. Very nice, a bit hot and sticky from the barrel, but it’s just a Red Ale. Sticky and warm, bigger barrel and big oaky vanilla tannins. Not bad, a bit hot but really nice.
