masonjer (503), Holt, Michigan, USA Jan 2, 2009 Had this on tap. Poured black. Aroma was spices and coffee. Taste was nutmeg, black coffee, roasty, with chocolate and hint of pumpkin. This was very well done. sleestak (102), Williamston, Michigan, USA Dec 21, 2008 On tap at Flossmoor and from a growler. Man, was I excited about this one because a. I love me some chocolate, b. I love me some pumpkin, c. I will probably never get a chance to try the original Midnight Sun version, and d. Flossmoor brews the hell out of porters. Poured black and oily with a thin mocha head. Aroma is mostly coffee and dark chocolate, but nutmeg and cinnamon show through as well. Flavor is rich and bold, lots of coffee and chocolate with subtle pumpkin pie filling in the finish. Medium-bodied. Awesome, but I wish they had amped up the spice a tad more. JohnnyJ (760), Carlsbad, California, USA Dec 15, 2008 On tap at strong ale fest. Pours a dark black. This is very nice spiced ale. Dark chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, pumkin pie, clove. Nice full bodied mouthfeel... roasty with nicely balanced spice. Good winter warmer. beerguy101 (3608), Newark, California, USA Dec 8, 2008 Tasted on tap at the Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival 12/6/2008. This beer pours a very dark black color from the tap. Small to medium sized tan foamy head. The aroma is chocolate and coffee, nutmeg and cinnamon. A medium bodied spiced ale. The malts are chocolate, roasted malts and coffee. The hops are earthy. The pumpkin flavors and there, but kind of hidden by the roasted malts and all those pumpkin pie spices. It’s a nice mix and makes for a very tasty, very smooth tasting beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. hopdog (4949), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 7, 2008 On tap at the 2008 Strong Ale Festival. Poured a dark black color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of pumpkins, pumpkin seeds, and lots of spices. Tastes of spices -stronger in the tastes vs. the aromas-., pumpkins and some chocolate.
