Clear medium brown body under a tan head. Aroma is complex with all of the usuals. Alcohol. Flavor that follows the aroma.

Sample @ RBWG, Asheville. Hazy brownish pour with a modest off-white head. Big chewy toffee nose. Vanilla and coffee creamer. Chocolate sundae. Some dark fruit flavors. Raisin cake, prunes. More sweet chocolate with a bit of ashy roasted malts. Pretty rich and fat, oily. Not a game changer, but a really well-done example of the style. Great.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Big thanks to Paulinho. Hazy amber - brown beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is a little soft, fine carbonation. Rich bourbon and vanilla oak. Bourbon spice. Caramel malt underneath. Trace of coconut. Light spicy finish. Nicely joined up.

Bottle split at Bruces pad, big thanks to Scopey of Croydonia for this winner, 12/06/14. Mahogany brown/dark amber with a moderate beige swirl that retains well and makes tree shapes! Nose is big candied sugars, ripe dark fruit matter, bourbon wood tinges, toffee fudge, spice. Taste comprises light booze notes, toffee, dates, prunes, dark fruit wash, hint of coconut a la bourbonics, candyfloss. Medium + body, fine carbonation, rich feel. Solid barley wine, well balanced BA and drinks below the ABV.

Hazy amber, the aroma is rich rye and bourbon, dark plummy and dried fruit character. Smells intense, even with alcohol blasting in late. Big sweet vanilla, milk chocolate, rich, lots of caramel, intense, raisiny fruity.

Tasting at Matt’s
Hazy dark amber to mahogany color with small head. Huge aroma, malt and bourbon, pungent, resiny, a bit dusty, nutty, some tobacco; like beers that were modern in the mid 2000’s. Full bodied, with round mouthfeel; malty, even a bit chocolatey, sweet, bold; the barrel introduces some acidity, which helps; warm alcohol feeling.
Great one.

Bottle via trade, shared at Bruce’s. It pours very dark brown with a small beige head. The nose is raisin, dried fig, earth, wood, vanilla, toasted coconut, cherry skin, dirt and cocoa. The taste is smooth, earth, raisin, warming alcohol, raisin, figgy pudding, plum, prune, vanilla and oak with warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and slightly oily mouth-feel. All comes together rather well. Top quality barley wine.

Bottle at MBerkos tasting. Opaque warm dark brown. This beauty reveals itself layer by layer, with the bourbon barrel vanilla late to the game subtle and welcome; no onslaught of hop; supremely balanced and so smooth; the herbal lift from the caraway. Best bw ive had in years. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 oz. bottle, sent from deyholla (thanks a lot, Derek), pours a dark mahogany with a very small off-white head. Nose brings out loads of rye and spicy caraway seed upfront, along with wood bourbon barrels following. Flavour is a bourbon bomb, but not in a boozy way, with loads of bourbon barrels upfront. The rye and caraway are barely noticeable, except perhaps in counteracting any residual sweetness. Complex and certainly well-made. An elegant barley wine, drinkable in smaller amounts.

This one poured a murky medium to light brown wih a small beige head. Aroma was big whiskey character, caramel, dark fruits and chocolate. Falvor was not overly sweet, nice whiskey integrationg and mild rye spiceyness too. Solid.
