4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BBB63 (5029) - La Porte, USA - NOV 12, 2010
FoBAB 2010: Pours a murky light brown hue with an okay head and lace. The aroma has notes of rye, caramel, toffee, toasted bread, slight charred smoky barrel and vanilla bourbon with a hint of herbal and grassy hops. The taste starts with a smack of bourbon and alcohol before the rye character steps up and takes hold on the back of the palate. Sweet lush malts and light fleshy fruits round out the palate before a slight hop bitterness finds it’s way out of the wilderness. The finish displays an ashy oaky tone. The mouth feel is sticky and sharp, aggressive, biting and a quite warming, not for the meek. I like this for not masking the rye and integrating the barrel carefully. Well played Flossmoor, Bravo. This is one serious winter warmer.

Fairly certain this is what I had on tap @ Rev Brew opening party. Pours brown with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon, caramel, wood. Little bit of spice to it and a little alcohol warmth. Very well done though.

On tap at brewpub. Pours brown with thick white head. Aroma is bourbon, spice, and caramel. Flavor is oak, bourbon, spice, caramel, and some vanilla. Very nice beer; I think the rye could be toned down, but a superb beer overall.

Draft at the brewery’s pre-DLD shindig. I thought it was pretty tasty but it did border on being sticky-sweet. Smaller amounts in a smaller snifter will serve you best.

Really excited to try this one, big thanks to a generous BA.
Pours a dark chestnut brown that shows through a deep, clear copper when held up to light. The head is a thick beige cap hat recedes slowly.
Aroma is really nice with an initial bourbon sweetness, definitely lots of barrel character. Caramel malts, treacle, overripe dark fruits and even some lighter fruit notes. Some molasses and chocolate notes.
Taste is also heavily alcoholic with lots of bourbon notes, vanilla nd lots of oak. There is some caramelized brown sugar, caramel malts and pears. The finish is boozy with a hefty burn.
The mouthfeel is smooth but with a spicy, barrel-heavy character. Nice creamy feel.
The aroma really had me excited, world class almost, but the taste is just a step below. It’s still one hell of a beer, but still very hot with a ton of booze.
