Fruit beers originated in Belgium and we at The Station are proud to offer our version of these continental classics. Our light-bodied Chessie Cherry Wheat is a blend of red cherries and wheat ale, which yields a slightly sweet, yet agreeably tart, fruit ale.

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2005 Re-rated, Aug 5, ’05 I think Matt has been tweaking the recipe a bit. The cough syrup flavor has been reduced, and a nice spicy, mostly German hop bill is now fighting the cherries on an equal footing. I think there has been some improvement at work here. Most of us just won’t warm up to fruit beers, but it’s interesting to see one evolve.
Draft, Aug 31, ’03. Rated 2.3. I can see its points, but it just isn’t for me. Strong Smith Bros. cough drop aroma. Cherry flavor seems to be fighting it out with the malt and hops, with no clear winner. Interesting cloudy wheat appearance. A bit of hop taste does pop up at the end, though. Just need to refine it a little further.

Intense red fruits, raspberries, red currant, sweet grain and bread malts. Hazy, dark brown, small, creamy white head. Medium sweet. Very fruity, red fruits and raspberries again, soft carbonation. Very nice Fruit Beer, great raspberries in aroma and palate. Keg at brewery, Flossmoor, IL.

I got a 16oz glass of this that poured a cloudy amber orange color with a nice off-white head. The aroma was that of a cherry wheat scent. The taste was mild with a cherry and wheat taste delivering a slightly sweet tone. Was ok but could really use some more cherry flavor here. A decent fruit/wheat beer but there are better ones on the market.

On draft at Flossmoor, poured a muddy light pink color, aromas of wheat and light cherry. Flavors are wheat, and light tart cherries. Nice, light, crisp, and refreshing.

On tap at the brewpub, pours a hazy amber/orange with a thin white head, the aroma is slightly of cherry and yeast, the flavor has an artificial cherry like front end with a finish of yeast and wheat, really not all that enjoyable.

Sampled at the brewpub. A funky fruity appearance that is almost like a bloody Mary. Lots of thick lacing. The nose is cherries. That is also what is tasted. It is fairly dry with very slight bitterness. This is very east to drink and a nice summer beer.

Reviewed from notes. Pours a hazy light orange color with a bit of brown. The nose is some sweet cherries with a bit of dry grain and wheat in the background. Taste is overly sweet with cherries dominaing the entire palate. Feel is a bit cloying. Drinks okay and is refreshing as a summer beer, but not something I would really want again.
