3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 RAYBOY01 (2012) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 16, 2009
Very, very attractive dark golden pour with some coppery red highlights. Big abv is pretty well hidden, but does reveal itself in the dry peppery finish. Nose is very floral, citrusy, and has the requisite fruity yeast esters. Flavor is floral, sweet, touches of hop bitterness here and there, caramel malt sweetness in moderation, and hints of alcohol lurking in the background. A very interesting experiment, and I fully expect to find myself repeatedly back in the "laboratory" , conducting numerous tests of my own. But after my initial trial my current hypothesis is...this beer is good.

Tasted on Dark Lord Day from a 22oz bottle purchased at Lush Roscoe. Pours caramel orange with a thin beige head that recedes to a thin layer of spotty lace. The nose is very malty and fruity with tons of caramel and some burnt bitterness. The flavor is more bitter than expected and slithy vegetal with caramel, and cooked sweet potato maltiness. The body is medium with very light carbonation and a long burnt bitter and malty finish.

22oz bottle courtesy of FlssmrBrewAlum poured into a tulip.
Pours a hazy caramel orange with hints of red underneath a thick creamy white head that recedes to a soapy layer on top woth some streaks of lacing.
The aroma is floral and almost purfume-like with some orange rinds and spices. There is an underlying sugary fruit presence as well as some spicy oak.
The taste starts with the orange zest and has some earthy yeast and floral character. The finish has some vanilla as well as the barrel and spices including maybe coriander.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a moderate carbonation and some tingly spices and oak on the palate. It’s not quite as hefty or
I like this one better than last years as the spices are not overpowering and mix well with the oranges. An interesting brew.

Really interesting pink grapefruit/peach colored brew with a 1/4 inch eggshell head. Lots of mango, guava, and papaya in the nose along with yeast and peppery spice. Flavor yields freshly baked bread, caramel malt, honey, citrus and an interesting blend of spices. Medium mouthfeel with almost prickly carbonation.

Kind of a clear orangey, reddish, amber. Whispy white head. Aroma of honey, flowers, cloves. A bit fruity. Flavor is pretty interesting: flowery, honey, Light orange and a bit bitter. Mouthfeel is a bit thick. Definitely different from most goldens, kind of chewy. No detectable alcohol though, just lots of flowers.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 timbeer (66) - Rosemount, Minnesota, USA - NOV 3, 2009
Bomber - light orange/coppery color and crystal clear, light head that dissipates rapidly. I get honey, light flowery, coriander and spices in the nose. Sweet, honey and no bitterness. Mild alcohol warmness and pretty smooth as if passes over the tongue. Not much for hops or bitterness. An OK beer (but my wife really enjoyed it).

22oz bottle that I’ve had forever from Lush on Roscoe. Pours a cloudy burnt orange colored body with a finger-width, fizzy, off-white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is pretty sweet with lots of bready caramel, doughy Belgian yeast with some spice, Belgian candi, and floral fruits with some apricot and a light citrus. Flavor is similar. Sweet and bready caramels, lots of doughy yeast, a light herbal spicing, sweet oranges, florals, apricots, and a light citrus. Yeast spice and light herbal hop helps this finish dry, but sweet with lots of doughy and bready caramels as well as a light alcohol warmth. Lengthy aftertaste following a full body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a well balanced, bigger Belgian Strong that has some nice things going on. Pretty bready with lots of caramels, but a solid yeasty and herbal spice with a nice floral fruitiness and orange citrus. Not cloyingly sweet and hides the alcohol pretty well. Nothing crazy special, but this is drinking pretty well right now.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 savnac (2064) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - APR 10, 2011
Wax dipped 22 oz bottle from beernbourbon. Pours a clear golden orange with a medium white head. Aroma of sweet sugary malt, spices and some earthy yeast. Flavor is sweet and malty with hints of honey and candi sugar, the spices stronger in the flavor and add a zesty quality, light alcohol too in the end. Medium body with average carbonation and a sweet, sugary finish. This is a pretty good beer for a spiced beer. It’s held up good and I’m sure the spices have faded a bit, which is good IMO. Thanks Vince.

Pours a bright yellow-orange with a white head.
Nose is exaggerated belgian pale scents, lots of white pepper, orange peel, and coriander.
Taste is similar, big wheaty / graininess, pretty dry, lots of honey, coriander, belgian sugar, and yeasty bread characteristics.
