[1/30/16] Bottle sample at the Encomium bottle share, after RateBeer Best awards ceremony at Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel in Santa Rosa. Thanks everyone who shared bottles! Dark amber. Honey, dark fruits, spices, molasses. Sweet, slightly tart.

22 oz. bottle shared with Tmoney99 from old notes. Pours a slightly hazy pinkish/golden/orange color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet honey, floral character, orange citrus, some mild spices, bread, herbal, thicker than most goldens, worth trying, but I wouldn’t go after this again.

Bottle... Pours hazy and dirty-orange with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. The aroma supplies tons of fuzzy stone-fruits and red apples. The flavor is lightly acidic and sweet with loads of fruity esters and soft, spicy phenols. Finishes tart, lightly sweet and fruity.

Bottle in Chicago with TheAlum. Thanks Adam! Pours a murky bright dark orange appearance with a small head. A bit zesty, mild orange citrusy, somewhat dull sweet malty, bready, a bit oxidized aroma. Somewhat spicy, a bit floral, light tomato juice, a bit tangy flavor. Probably a little past its prime.

Bottle: Poured a deep orangey color ale with a small foamy head with average retention and some light lacing. Aroma of sugar with light spices is not the most enticing. Taste is also dominated by overly sweet notes with too much residual sugar with light spices also noticeable. Body is somewhat full with oily consistency and medium carbonation with light warming alcohol notes. I thought this beer was too sweet with too much residual sugar.

Cellared bottle pour - had fresh, but never took notes...nice whoosh upon opening, but no significant action to the beer - pours deep brown with reddish tints - some slight tan head that settles into a broken film. Aroma is quite light...sweet malt, candied fruit, brown sugar and some citrusy spice - pretty decent, though I’d like it to be a bit more forward. Flavor is interesting, and overall, I’d say solid - brown sugar, sweet, sugary malt, some dark fruits, and all accented by a strong orange note. Slight off-flavor that is kind of metallic, but it doesn’t detract too much from the drink. Palate is good, but might be a bit thinner than anticipated...slightly boozy on the finish. This is better than I remember it being in the past, so the cellaring definitely hasn’t hurt!

22 oz bottle. Got this in a trade at DLD 2010 (I think), figured I’d need to crack it open at some point. Pours a copper color with absolutely no head. Smells of wheat, hops, malt, clove (?), and some herbs or spices (pretty standard belgian smell to me). Tastes of malt with a weird mix of herbs to it; lost the clove and hops smells in the flavor. Light body to it. Might have served it a bit warm though. Not bad overall, but nothing special.

27-AUG-2012, bottle @Papsø. Golden with off-white head. Spice, yeast, hops, citrus, flowers. More belgian on taste than aroma. Sweet. Quite nice, but funny.
