Our "Hi-Fi Rye" is brewed with almost 60% malted rye to give this beer a very rich and intense maltiness. The American hop varieties used impart complex citric, spicy, earthy notes, and combine to amplify the rye character. The tradition of the barley wine-style ale is carried out with this ode in rye. Cheers!

bottle shared with 2 friends. had the barrel aged version a few months ago. wich was incredible. poured a hazy dark orange colour with a slight off head on top. nose is filled with sweet sticky rye, caramel, cloves, fainted red fruits, and sticky toffee. marzipan and a note of butterscotsch. taste is quite bitter in the in. wich surprised me. since this if 5 years old by now. lots of sweet sticky flavors. balanced with a strong bitterness. not as good as the bourbon version.

Bomber 2012 vintage poured a clear reddish amber with a small lasting creamy amber head. Aromas of rye, earthiness, citrus, spice and light cocoa. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of rye, earthiness, caraway and light citrus with a smooth lingering rye finish.

Bomber. Poured medium orange with a short-lived, but easily-resuscitated beige head. The aroma picked up sweet honey, vanilla, and lesser molasses accented by spicy rye, orange meat, and light oxidation.. loved it! The flavor found honey, licorice, and molasses sweetness at the core, with lots of black pepper, rye, and orange liqueur laced throughout.. dried out and scorched the back of the mouth a little (in a good way).. long, warm finish with great carryover orange and peppery rye. Heavier-bodied with full carbonation on the palate.. this held up remarkably well!

Poured an amber color with aromas of caramel, bread, toffee, light rye and some booze. Flavors were the same with some wet cardboard/oxidation in the aftertaste. Decent beer overall.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2014 Bottle: Thanks to Mike & Tim for sharing. Swampy looking, opaque copper body with nearly no head... barely even a ring forms around the edges. Aroma has notes of sweet, dark prunes & nearly vinous grapes with caramel, buttery toffee, & a light bit of toasty bread. Seems like some oxidation has taken place... lightly "stale" character in the back-end. Taste is big graham cracker up front with sweet toffee, light caramel, plums, prunes, grapes, & some more oxidation on the palate, lightly sherry-like but also somewhat stale & cardboard-y in the aftertaste. A little thin for a barley wine, & a mild rubbing alcohol character grows with too much warmth. Slightly disappointing considering how good the barrel aged version is. Wonder if this one was much better out of the gate?

Bottle courtesy of Tooch4321 from back in the day, this is at least a 2011 bottle. Pours a dark amber with an off-white head. Nose is big dark fruit, toffee, caramel, and some oxidation. Flavor is somewhat oxidized with fruit, toffee, and some earth. Medium in body and while past its prime, still has some fruity/ sherry character.
