COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our "Hi-Fi Rye" is brewed with almost 60% malted rye to give this beer a very rich and intense maltiness. The American hop varieties used impart complex citric, spicy, earthy notes, and combine to amplify the rye character. The tradition of the barley wine-style ale is carried out with this ode in rye. 22 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy deep amber with a small tan head. Aroma is spiced and roasted malty. Sweet, roasted and malty to breadish flavoured. Hoppy and slight spiced. Lingering fruity and roasted malty into the finish.

Shared by a generous individual at Dark Lord Day. A: Pours a nice, deep mahogany with an off-white head and a good amount of lacing. S: Initial whiff is spicy rye atop some bready biscuit malt, hints of anise, and a bit of caramel/toffee sweetness in the background. T: Slightly spicy rye is again at the fore, although there is a very nice somewhat sherry-like sweetness backing it up. M: Medium body and somewhat cloying, but not overly so, as the ryeís dry and spicy characteristics balance it out nicely. D: Very drinkable. A fairly complex brew, and one of the best beers Iíve had from Flossmoor. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-06-2010

Bottle shared by BrewEngingeer at the 12th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering on 9/18/10. Pours a clear plum color with a thin head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of rye, toffee and an earthy finish. The taste is sweet toffee notes, bitter rye and a faintly hoppy finish. Medium-full bodied. One of the hits of the tasting for me, easily. Damn good beer. Bottle courtesy of BrewEngineer at the 12th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering on 09/18/2010. Aroma is very sweet. This beer is fairly dark brown. Taste is quite strong of rye and caramelized sweet malts. The rye kind of overpowers overything else so if you like rye and high gravity, this is the beer for you.

From Brewengineer @ 12th Richmond Gathering: Rye, dates, and bread on the nose. Dark copper, thin head. Cloying flavor of dates. Very syrupy. I like barleywines as much as the next beer geek, but this didnít flip my trigger. Bad ryewine.

Bomber, cream wax dipped. The pour yields a clear, dark, figgy-brown body with violet and crimson hues. A billowing head of smooth, consistent, beige tinted foam. Slowly settling to a thin, swirly film, the head leaves thin, tattered cobweb trails of hard lacing on the glass. Caraway seed is immediate and unmistakeable on the nose, as is abundant toasted rye, creamy caramel, and chocolate roast. Hints of stewed raisins lend a bit of dark, earthy, fruity sweetness, as warming alcohol and a hint of anise let you know this stuff means business. Itís not very hoppy, but the dark, dry roast brings thigs into balance. Flavors largely follow suit, showing notes of sticky burnt caramel, dry cocoa, toasted nuts, and maybe a bit of molasses. Raisin is there again, as is the spicy rye, caraway, and bready-peppery yeast. Alcohol is more prominent than Iíd like, as a low, rolling warmth intensifies to an almost full-on burn at the bittersweet, burnt toffee finish. Big bodied, the palate is moderately carbonated,finishig with a sticky, cloyig consistency and the aforementioned alcohol burn. This reminds me a bit of Julioís Rye(a)n Ale, only more boozy, not as well balanced, and minus the barrel character. In other words, itís very solid, but it falls well short of Smuttynoseís rye wine masterpiece.

22 oz. Thanks to BrewEngineer. Hazy dark brown. Aroma is sweet and alcohol. Taste is on the verge of cloyingly sweet. Spicy finish. Overall a little on the sweet side but not bad.

Sampled at the Richmond Gathering XII. Big malty biscuit, caramel, scotch, sweetness helps to balance out the spicy rye character. Very good. I really like this for the sweetness.

(Sample Date: 9/18/2010 Source:BrewEngineer) Caramelized sugars with dark fruits and moderate spiciness in aroma. Clear deep ruby amber with small white head. Sweet with nice warming. Moderate dark fruits and caramelized sugars with robust spicy bitterness. Full body and mouth feel. Finish is sweet and spicy.
