On tap at the brewpub, pours black with a tan head and a little lacing, the aroma is very roasty with a little bit of chocolate and coffee, flavor has an odd sour front end with a finish of chocolate and roasted malt, kind of like soy sauce on the front end, ok just not my thing.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JCB (3795) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JUL 9, 2012
On cask at the brewery. Very nice looking pour, chewy and thick as is only appropriate for the style. Thick silky head, and a scrumptious nose of toasted oats, silky choc, and bitter hops. Mouthfeel as good as hoped for, and the flavors are perfectly apposite for the style. I’m always a sucker for a dry stout when done well, as this one was.

This has strong coffee notes coming of this, almost in a porter-like way. Lengthy aftertaste.
