Commercial Description:
Our deep, dark, full-bodied lager. A slightly bittersweet chocolate aroma with a malty body that hints at dark fruits. It’s complex and very enjoyable with a touch of roast finish. This may be the best beer we make all year long. The bottled version is called Killer Kapowski.

Hazy brownish black with a creamy straw head. Thick, sweet, roasty aroma. Some sweetness and strong roast, caramel, toast, and bisuit flavor. Thick and full palate without being cloying.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with garnet highlights and a creamy mocha head that reduces to an oily surface. The nose is of dark roast, chocolate cake, dark fruit and a light ashiness. Full-bodied and oily with a roasted, lightly bitter finish. Dark roasted malt blends with notes of dark fruit and chocolate ending roasty and lightly dry. This is a tasty brew.

Sampled from the full sampler at Flossmoor Station. Poured an almost black with some deep red undertones with a nice head. Smells of roasted darker malts with a bit of sweetness. Syrupy strong taste with roasted malts and a nice warming effect. Roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, caramel notes and alcohol are the most prominent features of taste. Finishes slightly sweet. Rerate - On tap at FFF Brewpub, tasting in honor of back-to-back GABF Medals. This beer is much improved. The sampler was a bad place to rate this originally. Largely chocolatey malt sweetness up front with some roastiness balanced with a boozy back end that is pleasant and warming. A brew very welcome for the coming winter. Cheers

On tap at the 2007 GTMW: Black colored with red tints. Aroma is mildly roasty with dark caramel, alcohol, and lactose. Taste mirrors the aroma and comes across as sweet & syrupy.

On tap some time ago at Flossmoor. Wish I had taken notes, but it was the best baltic porter I had tried. Very think and compelx wihtout being too syrupy or cloyingly sweet. It’s like a big version of a session beer-- highly drinkable.

Notes from Dark Lord Day ’07. Dark brown with a one finger medium brown head, fades to a ring. Aroma of coffee, roast, some grain, alcohol and raisins--in that order. Flavor had alcohol, roast, some coffee--spicy alcohol and a bit of soy. Medium full body with light to moderate carbonation. I’ve got another rating/sample somewhere from the GTMW, I just need to find it.
