Nose is dark fruit, chocolate, roast, smoke, and lots of awesomeness. Flavor matches this level of awesomeness with the 8% ABV hidden real well. Add to that vanilla, complexity, love, chocolate, plums, burnt sugar, and fruit. Excellence in a bottle. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA

Aromas of some chocolate, lots of plum, prune and raisin, and some slight liccorice. Flavor is amazingly complex as well. Dark bakers chocolate, raisin, prune, roasted malts, slight smoke, caramel, and a little bit of vanilla. Smooth almost oily palate with slight carbonation. No sign of the alcohol.. This one is a beaut and is one of the better Baltics I’ve tried.. Wow i really like this!! Thanks Duane for the chance to get to try this one!!! MIBRomeo (1966), Wisconsin, USA

Dark brown with some garnet highlights and a lasting tan head. The aroma reminds me of Raisinetts, very chocoalte and raisiny. There is a huge chocolate and dried dark fruit flavor as well. Really makes the taste buds state up and take notice. Medium body. Really a top notch beer. Suttree (2752), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Really easy to drink, smooth without being thin, definately quaffable. Tastes like coffee and prune and other dark fuits, really nice mix of sweet and bitter. Dries out a bit as it warms. Very nice brew. Thanks, Secret Santa! heemer77 (4313), Savannah, Missouri, USA

Oh man! This beer was incredible. Flossmoor is a great brewpub and this beer is a stand out amoung many other great beers. The body was very black with a kahki colored head. The aroma was licorice and chocolate. There was also a hint of high quality tobacco. The taste was anise with dark chocolate and some good tobacco. There was also a little bit of walnuts to complement the nice smooth finish. This beer is a scary one as it is too easy to drink. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 26, 2007 Oily black pour, reminiscent of inky octopus attacks, with swirling ruby and chestnut hues that are both very dark and subtle. Thin cream colored head with ample retention. This is a very pretty porter. Aroma is milk chocolate, mellow perfumy yeast, fresh white oak barrels, anise, smoke, berries, light caramel, vanilla, plentiful sweet malt and just a touch of alcohol. Flavor is much the same, with moderate to heavy roastiness as sort of a dessert topping, a syrupy coating. More apparent alcohol and a unique woodiness. Chocolate resembles fresh fudge, like on half cooked brownies. At first the carbonation seems abrasive but keeps this lively. Mouthfeel is slick but full and heavy. Finishes chocolatey and mildly warming. Excellent. A crowning achievement for a top notch brewpub.
