2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
On tap at brewery. Murky/muddy brown without much head. Thinner than expected for the style; I generally like them to be a bit fuller. Nice maltiness but not too complex. The cherries are very understated, just a faint skin-like fruitiness in the finish. Kind of disappointing, actually.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Draft at at HOPS! Oktoberfest. Pours a deep reddish brown hazy thing with a persistent and fluffy head. The nose is interesting. Soft cherry pie and clove come through, as does a bready note. On tasting, it’s pretty sloppy. There is a distinct phenolic note, then weird toffee and Kirschwasser. Odd and mangled, this one does not work for me. The base beer seems off and the cherries just throw it into a tailspin...

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap; pour is murky dark caramel, with an off white head that retains on the average side in this glass. Spotty, sticky lacing is present as well. The nose is a little german, a bit of cherry pits, caramel. The flavor profile is messy to me; baked bread, caramel, cherry skins, wheat, and an average carbonation. Not a fan at all

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
draft... medium muddy amber, lots of copper, a thin light tan head... dead nose, a bit of dark fruits, no cherries at all... tastes is equally boring, way to light in taste and feel, again no cherries, a chalk note with a bad finish, this is not very good, sounded like it had such promise

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft on tap at the brewpub (Flossmoor, IL). Standing by my "No buying of non-sour beers" at Flossmoor clause. Pours a murky brownish pour, darker with amber glowing edges. A very big frothy khaki head sits atop, huge, laces well, sticks around as an ok level over time. Aromas are a rich banana ester up front, bread dough, flaked wheat, touches of caramel and toast. Cool cherries come through into the backend of the aroma, sweeter and dark, with some toastiness. A touch dry, lingering banana and cherry. Initial is medium bodied offering some dry soap and flaked wheat up front. Touches of banana and carmelized malts. Sweeter, some pear, a touch tart, moving into dry straw, touch of florals, some dry toastiness. Some darker cherries show up into the middle. A dry sopapy finish with lingering darker cherry, toast, and flaked wheat. Really, it’s quite dry, keeping away from the typical sweetness I would have expected. Some banana, bread, fruit and cherry sweetness grow, but at the same time the beer stays on the drier side of things, toasty and grass. That lingering cherry on the back playing second fiddle is quite pleasant. A different Dunkelweiss, that seems for sure. Overall, it’s a pleasant beer.. A bit of a change of base. Gorgeous pour. Cherry seems genuine. Not bad. Solid, keeps far away from a sweeter beer I expected. Further in the malt body gets a bit more inviting with just a faint touch of cocoa and brown sugar.. But largely a drier beer that highlights some decent cherry notes. I enjoyed this, but it was different than what I expected
