Brewed in collaboration with Flossmoor’s original brewmaster, Todd Ashman, No. 4 is the latest in a series in our ongoing tradition of barley wine greatness. 1st there was Old Conundrum, followed by Wooden Hell, then Hi-Fi Rye. No. 4 is a unique blend of malt, wheat, & rye reinforced with raw sugar. Hopped heavily with Warrior and Apollo with Cascade, Centennial and Columbus in supporting roles. A barrel aged version will be available at the end of April 2014.

Bottle shared thanks to Dave at NG sour release. Poured clear amber with white head. Aroma of bourbon caramel malt. Light carb need bod. Taste of burnt char oak light bitter

[Tap] Reddish amber color with a small cap of white head. Sweet molasses and toffee mingle with alcohol notes in the aroma. Caramel, grapefruit hops, distracting alcohols and syrupy brown sugar notes in the taste. Average palate. The flavors don’t come together as well as I was hoping here. It’s a little rough.

3rd of flight of 5 @ brewpub. didn’t have them in the order that was recommended: BA Dubbel, Flemish, Barleywine, BA Barleywine, Hefeweizen. good, but didn’t taste like a barley wine (or a barelywine). eclipsed by the baked mac & cheese with brisket.

Shared glass at the brewpub on Dark Lord Day evening. In the glass was dark redy\ with beige head. Nose of toffee, pine and citrus hops, and some nuts. Medium body. Flavor is malt forward and rich and the hops are everywhere and move to the finish were there is a lot of citrus and pine, along with ripe fruit. Good but could use more aging in my opinion.

It poured a hazy red/tan color with a tan head.. The aroma was of nuts, citrus, some caramel and a touch of oak. The taste was similar with a little bitterness. Good stuff.

Tap@Flossmoor. Pours hazy reddish chestnut, medium creamy beige head, great lacing on the glass. Aroma is not strong, but has notes of nuttiness, oranges, toffee, caramel, pine, spruce, a touch of citrus. Flavor follows, rich and medium sweet with corresponding medium bitterness. Nice balance however. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Nice enough, but I wish the hops provided a more distinctive flavor palate.
