Had this beer at GABF on 10/2/1999. Aroma is a sweet malt scent. Color is very dark near black. Light carbonation. Taste like most Barley Wines with a sweet rich malt flavor, some oak like flavors and a faint hop taste. Its a tasty Barley Wine.

RAF. A spicy, completely influenced by Jack Daniels brew. Huge soapy bubbles. Did they forget to completely empty the barrel? Caramel and coconut aroma, perhaps influenced by the addition of Palm Indian sugar. My bourbon-drinking uncle would ignorantly sing all beers' praises after trying this one.

cask (RAF) aged in Jack Daniels Barrel: a flat pour of dirty dish water with strange sparkling dust spots on top...aroma of whiskey, cream, smokey sweet carmel and oak..flavors were represented by a sweet and bitter combination with subtle oak notes and a nice throat warming...maybe some orange peel peeping in every-so-often.

Strong toffee/rum/bourbon aroma. Bourbon and rum dominate the malt flavor, very little else is even tastable. WAY too harsh for such a weak barleywine. At times almost like a watered down shot of Jack Daniels. Slightly hoppy and very sugary. This one wasn't for me, could be the aging in bourbon barrels.

very different for a barleywine-huge malt, but not much hop presence. alcohol was well detected, but didn’t hinder the ratings much. Would like to try a larger sample of this.
