holdenn (1161), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 14, 2008 On tap at the station on 7/10/08. Pours an amber red with an off white head. Lots of tropical fruit, hops and malt coming from the sample glass. Flavors of caramel and toffee malt with lots of tropical fruit, grapefruit, bubblegum and a strong bitterness. Wow, I had no idea this was going to be so good. A hoppy and delicous amber.
Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 8, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Intensely hoppy amber ale.
I like:
Very hoppy, resinous, grapefruity aromas are accompanied by a brilliant toasty maltiness that has an ingenious smoky touch to it. Juicy toasted malts are a fine fit to the hops, leaving them the main stage, but supporting the fruitiness farther. Really tasty hops and surprisingly complex.
I dislike:
The hop abuse produced a lot of acidity and I would probably not want another glass for that very reason, which, considering the joyous overall appreciation, is not a good sign.
AndrewKScott (412), Lemont, Illinois, USA Sep 28, 2008 Really good for a red ale. Red pour with an off-white head. Malty, spicey aroma. Flavor is sweet and hoppy, some spice. The hops are really impressive. Great ale. kseecs16 (576), Westmont, Illinois, USA Aug 25, 2008 Draught at a tasting at the pub 8/23/08. Amber with a thin off white head. Quite malty nice rich sweet body. Hops evident with a piney character. Good with more of a hop character than you’d expect and a really rich robustness in the body. One of the better ambers I’ve had from a style that usually bores me.
