Tmoney99 (4656), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jan 21, 2008 Draft sample at brewpub. Poureed hazy dark brown hue with an average creamy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted malt aroma. Medium to ful body. Flavor was moderate toasted balanced bittersweet with an average bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good brew. pantanap (1323), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 14, 2008 draft at FS.....poured a semi-transparent dark brown which resembled more of a porter in nature. thin off-white head....a nutty malt forward nose soon followed and a little bit of a smoky-burnt note....flavors of nuttly sweet malt with a slight bitterness.....an average brown ale but i wasn’t a huge fan of this style to begin with. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Jan 4, 2008 Typical munich malt chewiness with some sweet maple and light char. Low hoppy, more chewy than it needs to be, and it finishes with a winter-warmer resemblance, slightly more thick than typical brown ale. kimcgolf (824), Dacula, Georgia, USA Dec 31, 2007 Poured from the tap to an opaque dark brown, with thick tan head that disspated quickly and left okay lacing. This had to be one of the drakest brown ales I’ve ever had.
Nose was slightly mute, but a pleasant mix of malty roasted nuts, chocolate and a hint of coffee. Mouthfeel unspectacular for this medium bodied beer. Flavor was more of the malty choclate and nuts, with a finish that was sweet and warming, but offset by just enough hops to avoid being too sweet.
A good winter beer. nolankowal (850), Columbus, Ohio, USA Nov 21, 2007 On tap @ brewpub. Brown pour with a light tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, and a bit of smoke. Flavor of toasted malts, light nuts, a bit of smoke and honey. Medium body, nutty/malty with a nutty/toasty finish. JLAudio (282), Crestwood, Illinois, USA Nov 2, 2007 Got to give them props on this brown ale. It was creamy, rich, smooth, and toasty. It had great complexity from its abundance of malt backbone, to its perfectly balanced backend and slight hop bitterness. Nicely done. Very drinkable. RSRIZZO (1345), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 14, 2007 Had this beer at GABF on 10/2/1999. Aroma is light with just a hit of malt. Color is deep brown with light carbonation and thin head. Taste is very mild with low malt character and an alcohol feel. Not a very good Brown. chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 27, 2007 Imperial nut brown! Lovely mahogany hue, full bodied, chewy yet slippery mouthfeel. Roasty taste with a lingering hop finish with plenty of nut including almond. Seemed 7+% alcohol, medicinal taste but not in an off putting way. Faint coffee.Below average carbonation.
This is by far the best microbrew-pub reastauant brews I’ve had and food and service was excellent. Highly recommended.
