Armoas of roasted malts and a touch of chocolate and/or coffee. Coca cola like head that is beautiful and inviting. Syrupy dark roasted and sweet malts and a touch of chocolate with some nutty undertones which I’m not really sure I tasted even. Finishes a bit bitter, but enjoyable and a great brew. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 14, 2008 draft at FS.....poured a semi-transparent dark brown which resembled more of a porter in nature. thin off-white head....a nutty malt forward nose soon followed and a little bit of a smoky-burnt note....flavors of nuttly sweet malt with a slight bitterness.....an average brown ale but i wasn’t a huge fan of this style to begin with. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 4, 2008 Typical munich malt chewiness with some sweet maple and light char. Low hoppy, more chewy than it needs to be, and it finishes with a winter-warmer resemblance, slightly more thick than typical brown ale. kimcgolf (828), Dacula, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2007 Poured from the tap to an opaque dark brown, with thick tan head that disspated quickly and left okay lacing. This had to be one of the drakest brown ales I’ve ever had.
Nose was slightly mute, but a pleasant mix of malty roasted nuts, chocolate and a hint of coffee. Mouthfeel unspectacular for this medium bodied beer. Flavor was more of the malty choclate and nuts, with a finish that was sweet and warming, but offset by just enough hops to avoid being too sweet.
A good winter beer. nolankowal (850), Columbus, Ohio, USA
