Tastes of Tootsie-Roll and licorice. Toasted, woody dry end. Complex but not so well blended. Decent overall, but not convincing. YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany

I like this the best of all their dark beers, that I have tried here thru the years. Nice toasted nutty aroma with a slightly sweet finish. RAYBOY01 (1828), Chicago, Illinois, USA

It used to be kind of middle of the road in style...but someone kicked this baby in gear and brought out the "nuttiness". I taste macadamia, almonds, hazlenut , etc. This is not your mamma’s nut brown. Cornfield (4928), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA

From the brewpub’s tap, it’s an almost black dark brown with a deep tan head. There’s plenty of sweet malt in the aroma, along with dark dried fruits. A rich mouth-full, this has strong malt flavors, a nuttiness, raisins and plums, and some serious herbal hopping. Fun drink.
Booting up the rating on 4/13/2008 because of the vast improvements that Matt & Andrew have made to the beer over the ages. And now having it available in a bomber? - Great!

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 24, 2004 Sample at the brewpub. Near pitch-black with a lasting creamy head, just a touch of translucence...sweet hazelnuts, almonds and light molasses fill the nose...very sweet and sugary on the tongue, pillowy-soft mouthfeel, sweetness carries throughout with initial oily nuttiness mollified by creamy vanilla towards the finish. Top-notch brown. steve23mj (273), Essexville, Michigan, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 5, 2004 Pours dark brown (almost dark enough for a porter) with a light tan head. Nose is of chocolate, oat and mollasses. Body again seems thicker than most traditional nut browns. Chewy and sweet. Finish is a lingering bittersweet kiss. TheDean (785), MIlwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Even though my scores on this are accurate and well researched, ?Da Man? wants me to say more about the beer, so I will. Not a lot of pizzaze to this beer, average at best.
