memugi (7), USA does not count Aug 23, 2008 very strong, toasty aroma with chocolate and some sweetness. first tastes were initially of dry, toasted hazlenuts and chestnuts. got sweeter as it warmed, but never cloying. nice balance of dryness and sweetness. satan165 (542), River Grove, Illinois, USA Jul 26, 2008 wonderful sweetness that is neither cloying nor overly coating on the palate. this is very plesant and truly a sessionable beer. the oats really push this over the top into new territory. just a touch of dryness and even the hops are well played. balance, balance, balance! msante79 (785), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA Jul 25, 2008 Bomber. pours dark brown with red tints. Nice fluffy tan head. Aroma is wonderful with roasted malts, molasses, and chocolate. Flavor is very porter like with huge molasses and roasted malt flaovrs. Can also taste chocolate and some caramel flavors. By far the best brown ale I have had and this beats the shit out of Rogue’s brown ale. Will make sure I pick this up every time I hit the brew pub. holdenn (1432), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 14, 2008 On tap at the Station on 7/10/08. Pours a dark brown black with a beige head. Abundant aroma that is so roasty with chocolate and fresh malt. Really roasty and nutty flavors with burnt malts. Finishes dry. This is a surprisingly delicious beer. The panama and this prove that I need to pay more attention to the regular line-up, b/c these are solid beers. drewbeerme (2223), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 10, 2008 on draft at FS. pours dark brown with white head. aroma is roasty, nutty, caramel. flavor is grain husky, roasty, malty. med body. dry finish. this is an awesome brown ale. kmweaver (2398), Sebastopol, California, USA Jun 22, 2008 22oz bottle, courtesy of hombrepalo. Thanks, Horacio! Pours a murky, dark brown color; medium tan head with decent retention and fine-bubbled lacing. Lots of roasted nuttiness, chocolate, nougat, and molasses in the aroma; nothing overly sweet, just solid. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: definitely one of the more generous brown ales I’ve tried, with loads of nuttiness, roasted malts, and coffee upfront; nothing very astringent or overly bitter at all, with just a nice mineral bitterness keeping things under control; the molasses note is very present, showing through with plenty of sweetness and chewiness, but again there’s nothing overly sweet here, just a touch more heaviness than one would expect from a brown ale. Drinkable, but it could be a bit better with a more pronounced hop character and slightly more subdued molasses note; a very good beer regardless. Lengthy finish: roasted malts, nuts, and brown sugar. railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 4, 2008 This is a great dark brown brown ale that was very malty and hoppy but a very smooth finish and nice and very rich with all kind of flavors and malts.CHEERS! guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA May 25, 2008 Updated: May 7, 2009this by far is the best brown ale i have ever had. made with molasses and 7 differnt malts poured the color of porter deep dark brown almost black small head but lots of lacing from this thick creamy monster of a brown.taste of molasses nuts and lots of malts aromas abound very complex. this from a small brew pub very impressive. better than rouges and you can get your own now that they started bottling if you can find it voted best small brew pub in 2006
