Draft at Farmhouse Tavern. Pours brown, almost black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of booze, oakiness and vanilla. Taste is slightly charred, slighlty vinous, oakey and wooden. Notes of chocolate and slight bourbon.

Sampled FOBAB ’12 - Another beer I’ve had in the past, but just poor at rating beers. Pours deep amber - minimal head. Aroma light bourbon, caramel, vanilla, light chocolate. Flavor has some of the wood accents, sweet caramel, roasty malts and some bourbon mixed in. Not bad at all. Palate was a bit thin, even for the style. However, the bourbon was melded nicely in this one, and the lighter offering was somewhat appropriate...good, if far from great offering from Flossmoor...

On tap at brewpub, pours a very dark brown nearly black with a decent tannish head and some spotty lacing in the glass, the aroma has some decent notes of bourbon with some oak and a roastiness of the malt, the flavor has a good amount of bourbon on the front end with a sweet finish of chocolate, very balanced and nicely done, good stuff here.

On tap at Fobab 9. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aromas of bourbon, caramel, molasses, vanilla, and chocolate. Flavors of bourbon, molasses, roasted malts, and some toffee. Body seemed thin compared to what I remember the base beer being. Not overpowered by the barrel which seems to happen to a lot of Flossmoors BA beers. Not bad but did not improve the base beer in my opinion.

Pours an opaque black with very little tan head. The nose is faint with the bourbon and wood forward, some sweet dark fruits and light chocolate cake. The flavor is more rich in chocolate cake, the bourbon is soft and nicely integrated, but the finish is thin and a bit empty. The body isn’t bold enough to hold the barrel age but the favors are quite nice until they thin out.

draft... sounded good but just didn’t work for me, the base beer didn’t hold up, too thin and all Woodford, aged too long, raw bourbon, just didn’t get it

On tap at Flossmoor Station. Pours black with a foamy tan head. Aroma is of bourbon, wood, vanilla, lots of banana, and cinnamon. Not a whole lot of the base beer can be noticed in the aroma. Taste is of bourbon, chocolate, banana, and vanilla. Has a very dry, underlying woodiness to it. The alcohol is present and very warming. There are some dark fruit flavors that come through as it warms. The malt base is very dry, but underwhelmed by the alcohol and bourbon. Mouthfeel is sticky, yet strangely gritty. Nice head retention. The beer is a mess. Overpowering alcohol, no remains of the base beer. It just didn’t work for me.

Unsure what’s up with the low ratings. In a weekend where I had Darkness and Imperial Brown Goose on tap, this impessed me just as much, if not more. Pours a roasted black color with a firm reddish brown head. Smells of wholesome bourbon in the aroma. Tastes of toasted malt, caramel, milk cocoa, and vanilla. Balanced and comforting. A prime example of barrel agings wonders -- especially for browns. Awesome.

Served in a snifter glass, this brew is dark brown with a thin brown head. Wonderful aroma of toffee, caramel, and bourbon. Smooth, creamy, and 100% drinkable. For a high ABV, this beer is extraordinarily smooth. Sweet with notes of caramel and toffee backed up with just a touch of alcohol warmth. Very good beer.
