Draft @ Flossmoor Station, Flossmoor, IL. Pours a dark brown color with a small off-white head. Has a slightly roasted malty fruity caramel aroma with some grainy hints. Fruity malty caramel flavor with some weak hints of chocolate. Has a fruity malty grainy caramel finish.

Sample at Flossmoor. Dark brown pour with a medium tan head. Malty and fairly roasty aroma; does not smell like a lager. Roasty and caramelly malt flavor that is tasty and also is not reminiscent of a lager. Won’t get any complaints out of me there. I like dunkels that taste more like American browns.

Had this one on draught at the brewpub in Flossmoor, Illinois. Hazy dark brown pour with a foamy, tan head, a light malt and soy sauce nose. Flavors of chocolate, coffee, soy sauce and cherry dominate this one. Soft finish. Nice!

A - Some dark roasty malt, coffee, chocolate, banana, lager yeast A - Brown, almost black into a MORE than sufficient imperial pint. F - Sweet chocolate, malt, caramel, fruit, and breadiness. P - Crisp lagery finish. Sweet , roasty caramel. Not bodied well. O - This was definitely a chore to drink in my book. A pint was too much. Generous 3, as it wasn’t bad all around, and I have had worse.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a brown copper color with a beige head that laces the glass. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, sweet roasted malt, hops, banana, and dark fruit. Flavor matches the nose pretty well, with more of a yeasty, malty, bready character to it. Medium bodied, with a roasty finish. In the midst of sampling all of the beers available at the brewpub, this one didn’t stand out at all. But I should admit that dunkels are not my favorite beers, and this is not bad at all.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2009 Tap at the pub. Pours mostly brown with some nice lighter colored edges. Nice clean malty toasted flavors and aromas. Easy drinking body. I really love well made German style lagers from American breweries.

Too sweet by half and very, very cloying even to my old, played-out tastebuds. Very sweet caramel flavors, toffee. chocolate, and just a hint of hop bitterness in the very far distance. Just not easy to drink.
