4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 womencantsail (3929) - Home of Rebecca Black, California, USA - FEB 15, 2010
A: A dark, rich amber color with about 1.5 fingers worth of white foam.
S: A bit of a spicey aroma, which would seem to be from the rye. The hop aromas tended toward grapefruit with a mild resinous pine scent.
T: The taste starts off a bit slow, mostly malt and rye. It builds to a grapefruit citrus flavor in the middle and finishes with a moderate bitterness.
M: Good carbonation and medium bodied, the transition of flavors makes this very interesting.
D: All the flavors of this beer work together very well to form an easy drinking and very tasty IPA.

The Dan Journal #299. Tasted 9/14/09. Blue Wax top. 22oz bomber. Thanks Keir. Clear with a dark golden hue. Webbed off-white head. Aromas of fresh green hops, grapefruit and honey. Great nose! Medium to full bodied with a sweet sticky and cloying body. Decent effervescence. Thick brew. Solid bitterness and a tingling astringent hops. Lotta grapefruit and citrus. Dry finish. Trace pepper. Singular attack but very nice!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 BBB63 (5029) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - APR 30, 2010
Bottle and served in my GI IPA tulip: Pours a coppery hue with a heavy head and outstanding lace. The aroma has notes of citric and grassy hops, pale biscuity and crystal malts, some salty and minty earthy quality, and moderate rolled rye. The taste has a nice balance between rye snap, fruity twang, slight malt sweetness and some finishing bitterness. There is a slight mineral and chalky tone, tea like tannins that are my only dislikes about this brew. Overall one damn nice rye influenced beer that still allows the base IPA to shine through.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Beerlando (3324) - Orlando, Florida, USA - OCT 5, 2009
Fresh navy blue wax dipped bomber. Pours mostly clear, with a golden-orange amber hue. A thick head of ivory tinted froth shows good retention, sticking around for the duration and leaving scattered spots and splotches of lacing on the glass. As advertised, the nose shows signature rye grain crispness, fresh and clean, with lightly sweet toffee and toasted bread malts in the base. A bounty of juicy grapefruit and lemon hops add further sharpness, complementing the rye malt perfectly. Flavors are incredibly well balanced and tasty, sharp rye malt and bitter, peppery citrus rind hops slicing through the toffee and toast like a knife through hot butter. Grapefruit and rye linger well after the swallow. The palate is medium-full, with lively carbonation and a sharp, resinous finish that manages to stay quite drinkable for such a big beer. Damn good brew. I love rye IPAs, and this is one of the best I’ve ever had.

A: A nice dark golden shade with a nice off white head. Nice retention with some chunky lace.
S: Very floral aroma. Lots of herbal hops, grass, with notes of grapefruit rind.
T: Hoppy yet nice. Crystal malt up front, with mild carame and honeyl. Herbal hop flavors as well. Grassy green hops, citrus, and a dash of sweet pine.
M: Medium in body, smooth, tasty.
D: Damn good, I love the Flossmoor IPA’s.

22 oz bottle. Cloudy orange brown with a lacy white head. Nose is pink grapefruit, candi and rye. Medium body with crisp carb. Taste is tangerine, toffee and grapefruit pith smoothed by rye. Dry bready finish with some grassy bitterness. Typically solid IPA from these guys even better with the rye.

On tap at Flossmoor, served in a pint glass. Dark amber pour with a one-finger thick head of lasting beige foam. Heavy rings of lacing were left around the glass. The aroma had bright floral hops, fresh pine needles, and some underlying caramel. The flavor had caramel, a touch of rye spiciness, pine, and grapefruit. Really hoppy, but not overly bitter. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and had light carbonation. Quite a tasty brew. Nice mix of rye and hops.
